Alternate fishing mechanic
Currently, Fish Ponds totally lack any short term reward. which makes it too hard to plan using them. In the early game you might not have workforce to spare, whereas later you might already have more sustainable alternatives set up.

I suggest that they are reworked to be very similar to regular resources nodes, with one crucial change: using bait replenishes some charges. This way, Fish Ponds become immediately useful in the early game, while at the same time providing more benefits with the additonal setup of Pack of Crops production. It will play a role similar to that of Ranch, however, with several differences.

Fish Pond is cheap: less building costs (only a Fishing Hut), can work with more types of food input (whatever can be made into a Pack of Crops), does not require a blueprint point. However, it requires a longer production chain and can self-destruct if your Pack of Crops production stutters. Plus its products are fixed, and you can't boost it via rainpunk or specialty workers.

Ranch is controllable: it can be placed anywhere. It can use less food types as input, but does not require a pack of crops. You can decide what it produces, and it can be boosted easily via Rainpunk or Lizard workers.

I think this way Fish Ponds would complement existing buldings better.

I presume you mean two fully stuffed fishing huts, right? That's six workers. By the time you can casually throw six workers onto a task like that without stopping half your economy, you likely don't need the rewards.

That's the whole thing, instead of a trickle of materials you get nothing, then a big influx, thne nothing again. Which is annoying to plan for if you don't have another meat source immediately available.
