Water
Not sure I'm understanding how water functions. I have rain collectors, which get full, and then the workers in them are idle. Do I just want to keep them full? Or make sure the gauges at the top of the screen stay full? Then I can have the workers from there doing other things like building.

A lot of buildings say they can "use" various types of water. Does that mean they NEED that kind to function? Or does it work faster?

on buildings there is a tab near the top where you can "install" a rain engine, then a pair of knobs will come up and you can set how much water the building uses. Making the building faster, or better to work in.

AHA! They don't do much explaining of how that works. Or else I missed it.

Cheers!

Do I just need the rain catchers to have water in them, then? And I'm guessing they don't have to be adjacent?

They don't have to be adjacent. Every rain catcher gives +50 capacity to all three types of water.

yes it's like fuel. rain collectors don't have to be adjecent, the water is piped through the pipes connected to your building's rain engine.

I looked at some of the buildings (after building and using them), and there is nothing that says I can upgrade them. Water appears to be in use, since the tanks drain over time, but I don't see any way to upgrade. I think I'm about level 5 right now, is that something you have to unlock?

Yes, it's up in the 48 bread section.

So is there any point in building rain catchers before then? Apart from one cornerstone I know of, maybe.

There are some buildings before then that can use rain water (one making metal bars, one making tea that I've run into).
