What triggers a new blueprint choice?

Really? That kinda make that biome a go-to for completing some of the deeds.

I never considered it that but I guess more blueprint choices can certainly help with some deeds. Completing all the excavations can be considered a win condition in and of itself anyway due to the large amount of reputation you will inevitably gain doing it (not to mention that it is also a seperate deed).

I don't know from where you got the info that every completed excavation gives a blueprint choice as there are three possible rewards for completing an excavation, only one of them is a blueprint choice. This might be bound to the creature you excavate.

Then I am curious as to what the other two bonuses were, admittedly it has been a while since I played in the Scarlet Orchard but I somehow remembered blueprints being a guaranteed reward.

No that should not be the case.
I cannot remember what the actuall rewards are but I think they were all different. Though it is possible they changed it.

From the wiki (take that with a grain of salt, i do not know how accurate the AtS wiki is and the rewards sound to be much more than I remember them beeing):

Scorpion decoration with effect: global resolve grows by 1 for every 3 Reputation gained retroactive, +1 blueprint choice, +2 Reputation

Serpent rewards:

Spider decoration with effect: gain one Ancient Tablet for every two discovered glades retroactive, + 20 Amber for each completed stage of excavation retroactive, +2 reputation

The wiki should differentiate between the bonus for completing the event and the bonus directly associated with the restored decoration, probably why it's more than you remember.
(I also somehow thought that you get three reputation points upon completion.)

It might be outdated or just flat out wrong, the serpent for example is missing.

I just did another scarlett orchard run, excavating all three.
Scorpion and Snake gave another blueprint and another cornerstone (Scientific Award, Scientific Council).
Spider gave money (Scientific Grant).
Yes, all of them give +2 to Reputation, probably triggering a blueprint selection as well.

And good luck finishing all three without winning first ;)

I guess that at least explains my memories, it's likely I only every came across the first two.

I' post anyway:

Sea Serpent:
-Construct(9 harmony):Grants 10 Sea marrow for every 10 copper ore production (not retroactive)
-2 Reputation points
-Scientific Award (Perk): Additional Cornerstone

Sealed Spider:
-Construct(9 harmony):Grants 1 Ancient Tablet for every 2 discovered Glade (retroactive)
-2 Reputation points
-Scientific Award (Perk): 20 Amber for every completed stage of an archaeological discovery (retroactive)

Scorpion:
-Construct(9 harmony): Increases global Resolve for reputation points gained (retroactive)
-2 Reputation points
-Scientific Award (Perk): One additional Blueprint choice
