Humans are my second favorite, largely on the back of being a stable species with a Farming bonus.
I *like* Frogs, they're great at lots of useful things and very, very handy to have ... but like you said, the housing can be obnoxious before Year 2.
Pride is pretty much the lore reason given in game, yeah. They're primarily architects and the idea of living in something so... plebian... doesn't work well for them. Their house upgrades are pretty legit for making a booming building materials outlet, though, especially with the cornerstone to fit more people per house. And the "get more frog per two house upgrades" is kinda crazy when you keep fully upgrading frog houses; you get two frogs per house, if you invest like that.
At about P10 for personal reference, I think frogs might be third favorite for me, with foxes and humans being first and second. But all three together, yeah, Porridge gang rise up.
I did actually read the description before but it didn't really click with me until yesterday when Harpies & Frogs were forced on me
Yeah I like foxes as well, I like the boost you get when searching glades, I always try & keep them for those jobs.
Copper = Clay
Coal = Stone
Salt = Bone
Also, certain buildings that are only 2-star production get the 10% efficiency buff from frogs (like the stamping mill iirc), making them near as powerful as the 3 star recipes.
