Forsaken altar
Now that I have finished the tree, I feel that I can finally start using this building.

So, question: do the same cornerstones remain next storm if I don't chose one this storm, or are they reset?

Also, what does "decline" do? Why click that, instead of just X-ing out?

They stay the same. You can delay them if they are not immediately helpful. For declining, well, over the game you get three choices (at different positions of the reputation bar), so if the first offer has nothing you would like to take, you can decline to get a new selection later (with three selections in total).

Thanks!

And those cornerstones can turn around a lot of lost causes, so the moment you can get a cornerstone from them...DO it.

Well they delay critical game upgrades, such as warehouse haulers, house upgrades, cheaper trader blueprints, and so on. Not sure that delay is worth it for the sake of winning a game faster.

If it is about loosing the game, or delaying the tree, well, then you are inbetween a rock and a hard place.

So...Trade guilds. Traders arrive 25% faster and you get 1 extra trade route.
Stormforged version:
Traders arrive 33% faster you get 2 trade routes, and i think traders will also have one extra trait. ->this is the version from the Forsaken altar.

Smuggler-> get one free blueprint.
STormforged Smuggler-> 2 free blueprints.

Stormforged versions are the ones from the Forsaken Altar.

Or the one where impatient does not grow if a villager leaves or dies, but at year 9 your impatience grows 600% faster.
Stormforged version, no malus:) So no year 9 600%.

Those are the Stormforged cornerstones that delay critical game upgrades. You are correct.

I am probably not understanding what you mean then regarding the critical game upgrades.
Are you refering to the upgrades you can buy in the Smoldering City?

Because i would say Forgotten altar, can actually turn around games you would lose into winnable ones.
Though i have to be honest i have unlocked the SC tree completely 5 times at least already.
Just in EA twice. And i play usually on P16-20 difficulties.

5 times? I have played since EA, not continuously, and have not unlocked the full tree 1 time.

Yep. :) I restarted the game most of the time. I left it as is since august as only the ada seal is left.

I have mostly played P2 to get through the Smoldering City upgrade tree (SCUT for short) as quickly and as easily as possible. I did not want to deal with 50% higher building costs before that tree was essentially finished, because that felt like pouring salt in a wound.

Spending any meta-currency to win a game I will win anyway seems non-optimal, especially since it has taken me hundreds of games to complete the SCUT.

Well the thing is higher prestige means more supplies, faster unlock. Of course one needs to know the balance between higher prestige and unlocks, so it is understandable.
I had a generally good idea that with how many unlocks how far i could push the Prestige up, but only because i played since EA.
