Food stockpiles, artifacts and machineries
Is it possible to trade artifact and/or machinery for food stockpiles or vise versa?

My issue is that I usually play around events and I have plenty of those but I lack food stockpiles a lot.

Not sure what you mean by artifact and machinery, but different traders buy and sell different things. Buying extra food can sure help you in a pinch, but you can't really rely on that feed your settlement. You should concentrate on your food production pipeline, look at what is going to worst best for a given settlement and focus on ensuring a steady food supply early on.

Certain random events in map screen allow you to trade those things around.

Oh rly ? I didn't know.

You can also use them in the Forsaken Altar (if you play prestige 1+) to buy some boosted perks during the storm.

Not enough food stockpile mean you don't play the game enough.
Although it is really impressive you able to stock up special resource faster

Yep, thats normal. Just use the excess stuff in that storm altar thingy :)

Lol my bad, I was thinking in-settlement. Yeah, I am pretty sure meta progression should not be coupled to whatever you do in a settlement, let alone the extra Altar power. These are rewards for successful completion. You can already farm those if you wish anyway. The city upgrades are finite, so the meta resources already work as an extra boost after you have progressed enough in the game.

I had (and still have) your same "issue", since I played almost exclusively near map modifiers. I found just one world event that allowed me to swap resources, can't remember which exactly. Bread for machinery maybe? I ignored it.

I'm approaching the high tier upgrades and they cost a lot of special resources. I wanna obtain them asap, so I counted the requirements: even if I keep playing around modifiers and keep acquiring non-food resources, my big reserve of artifacts will either run out before I complete the tree or last barely long enough.
Machinery should be just enough in a few more games. Food stockpiles, then, won't be an issue.

Your numbers and resource distribution might be different due to the random nature of the game, but I suppose you are in a similar situation. So if you wanna buy out the tree "fast", I'd say keep stocking up and be glad later!

Just ignore the seals and the cycle and focus on the meta resources if you want to prioritize a certain upgrade.

And also, if you increase the difficulty you earn (way) more meta ressource.

I don't think it is impressive. I just play my cities on events only and I acquire a lot more machineries than food stockpiles.

I know I can use them in the altar during the storm but this is now what I want to do with them at the moment.

I play the game as much as I can on prestige 5, as this is where I enjoy the game without being too difficult. But the difficulty does not matter. I just dont play cities without events on the map and... I can not keep up my food stockpiles with the rest.

I am like 50 / 350 / 350

Yes, I am almost done with the meta progression as well - last 2-3 tiers are left, I still have plenty artifact and machinery.

Anyway, thanks guys, I guess I will use them in the altar if I need to...

You are playing the game in a way that earns you more artifacts/machinery, unfortunately there is no way to earn more food so in the end you will have less food than other currencies. On the bright side, you are not earning any less food, it's just that you have mroe other currencies.
