Unlocked all seals
I haven't played this game in a long long time and these seal things weren't a thing. So I played the tutorial again to see if I could find out and on completing the tutorial it awarded me a platinum seal. Is this a bug or am i meant to have this?

Might be a remnant from early access, maybe they gave it to everyone who reached a certain threshold before they added them.
But no, in general you are not supposed to get them after completing the tutorial.

yea when eremite added seals they didn't want to make experienced ppl have to go through all seals, so they set you up with the seal that corresponds to the highest difficulty you completed a settlement on. I got the 2 highest seals when I came back to ats

here's the relevant bit from the patch notes
If you are an experienced player who has already reached Prestige difficulties, you will get a dialogue box when launching the game for the first time after this update. There, you will be able to decide whether you want to start your Cycle progression from the beginning or skip to a Seal that matches your skills.

ok thanks for letting me know. Can I ask what these seals actually are as they were not covered in the tutorial?

If you haven't figured out already, seals represent the "end boss" of a particular blight cycle. It's on a special biome and winning condition is no longer filling the renounce bar. Instead you have to complete a series of special goals, on top of those required to sustain a normal settlement, to reforge the seal.

Winning or losing the seal map will be the end of the cycle and you will start from zero settlement again. If you win the cycle duration increases, giving you opportunity to go for seals further away.

There was a time when the game didn't have seals? Interesting! In the middle of trying the final seal I'm kinda, of a mind that adding them was a mixed blessing, heh...

If you dislike seal, you can safely ignore them, they serve as a goal, before there were no such goal, story wise you were only delivering resources to the city ensuring it's survival. There were 3 factions that were competing with you for land and modifiers (and setting a score for you to match), while idea behind them was interesting, execution was less interesting.

Yeah I kinda feel like I have to do the seals since they are presented as the objective of the game. But wow are they a challenge sometimes. Probably the biggest bummer is knowing I made one tiny mistake in the first season and am now confronted by the prospect of spending a week gradually working my back next cycle to try again. Oh well, live and learn I guess :)

You're very right!

If you played AtS before we introduced the Ancient Seals and opened the game after that update, the game would ask you if you'd like to progress the Ancient Seals from the beginning or match it to your highest played difficulty.

I suspect this is what might have happened in this situation. @Neo Noir did you get a screen like that?
