"End of cycle" is the only thing I don't understand
If I start a new town two years from end of cycle, do I get to finish it or does it boot me out with a loss at two years in?

Anyway, it took me two towns to realize that the years that passed in game were passing on the track at the bottom of the world map. I finished a town four years before the end, and since I knew I'd been putting up 5's and 6's and couldn't finish another, I hit the glyph. The game yelled at me that I was going to end the year early. Of course I couldn't experiment since the game is wonderfully ironman.

PS As someone who reinstalls Zeus every year, and who hired a warlock to curse Ubisoft after their launcher killed Settlers 7 forever, this is now one of my favorite games ever. I love you.

you get to finish it. nothing can interrupt your current settlement
you can start a seal settlement even when there is 0 years on the clock, provided you are within range and have the fragments

A mostly willing son is correct, but I will add an example, if you have 2 years till the ned of cycle you can start another settlement or settle next to seal and try to reforge it, you can ignore the warning if you wish. If you start new settlement (let's say, not a seal one) you will be able regardeless of how many years it will take you, it can take you even 56 years, it does not matter, you are allowed to finish. After this last settlement in which you have exceeded all the time you had left, you CAN STILL try to reforge the seal, again you have all the time you need (assuming you can survive that long).

In short, the warning means only that, you are still allowed a Settlement before trying the seal.

How is Settlers 7 killed ?
Surely the ubi launcher is the most crappy piece of software ever encountered. I need to klik ok on windows pop-ups about half a dozen times before it even starts and a bit more to launch a game. But it does launch each of the 8 Settlers games. (yes i have been silly enough to even buy the 8th one)
