Back to Map or Continue?

New player here with four settlements completed on my first run. What happens if you select 'Continue' after meeting the Victory conditions? Are you able to quickly and easily ( click of a button ) able to simply stop and go back to main map, thereby continuing your run?

And... what happens once the Storm hits? I assume my current settlements and progress towards a Seal is wiped? Am I put back in the main city and start another push outward? Do I retain all upgrades gathered to date or do those reset as well?

Yes all your settlements will be wiped and you will start from the main city again. All your meta upgrades will not be wiped.

When you keep playing after the victory condition is met nothing concerning the meta game changes, time does not move on any farther, you do not gain resources or experience, you cannot complete achievements or quests you might have from world events.
This is purely for fun.
