Is this game just broken?
I build tools at the Carpenter but those tools just disappeared. I literally watched them being build and then transported to nowhere because I needed them for a dangerous glade. This is obviously double frustrating because I lost five villagers early on, just because there seems to be a bug.

// Edit:

To clearify, the production was finished, the worker transported it, the worker became idle.
The resource was nowhere to be found, it also didn't show up for over 3 (!) minutes.

I killled the process with ProcessExplorer, started it, the AutoSave was luckily 4 minutes in, and after that it just worked as expected.

So no, this was definitely a bug and one that even can't be reproduced which makes it an even more serioues issue.

"seems".
We have been playing this game for over a year. There has never been a bug about stuff just dissapearing. So you'll have to find out where they are being used and stop that job or something.

There is however one quirky aspect of the game that might make it seem like things are dissapearing, but its only for a short time:
When a citizen is assigned to carry the item to some place. The item is removed from the place where it is, but its also not yet in the hands of the carrying citizen. So it seems to have vanished until a few seconds later it shows up as being carried by the citizen.

It's not likely to be a bug as It sounds like villagers are using the Tools in your case but you don't know where they are ending up. Keep in mind that there are some forest mysteries and glade events that may consume items as well such as wood or food however.

I have 125 hours played and never found a bug.

Probably the tools were used for something else as mentioned

You didn't lose them, you just lost track of them. Places they might be other than where you looked:

1. The production building's stockpile.
2. Being carried to the glade event stockpile by the assigned worker
3. The glade event stockpile
4. Being carried to / in the stockpile of another glade event you had left open previously (not normal, but might happen if you're really confused about the game mechanics)

I had that too at one point. Needed an item for a challenge and produced tons of it, but it never appeared at the spot i needed it.
You can track items and also select to stockpile them or refuse the usage.

There's another tab in the production buildings with more options, which shows the storage instead of being included in the first page, that's where it probably ended up, unless it was already taken out and being transported to the next location if OP checked it.

It was a long while (maybe like 10 settlements in) before I realized I was losing resources essentially to them being stored in production buildings. Villagers will often take them in there if you select them for a recipe and they can sit there forever not being used. It's more micro to be checking your production buildings to send back resources that aren't being used by those production buildings.

Tools aren't used in any recipes as far as I know, so they probably got taken to some event somewhere I guess.

One thing I don't like in this game is how you can't see certain info when clicking on a villager like what are they carrying and what is their current task.

Def not a bug. Look around and see if you can find where they being used. Maybe on crates already

Contrary to what others have said, check the Bug forum, others have definitely reported this. I personally have had this happen to me *once* in over 200 hours playtime, so it is not a common bug. For me it was Bricks. I would watch the Bricks crafting complete, and it would just *poof* disappear from the crafting building's inventory. I had no brick consuming recipes available.

If you catch this happening, it appears that quitting and reloading the game clears the issue.

I see this too. I have two cooperages only making tea, 10 at a time, and they are not going to the storage of the building, nor are they going to storage. I found this because I was looking into it to see if others have this issue. I think I saw this in another game with another one of the service buildings. I wonder if the game thinks it is like feeding them into the service building. In any case, for sure, in this game, all those tea are going into nowhere.

I do not want to disprove this being a bug, I have heard it before during early access, just not very often and as mentioned restarting the game helps if you notice this happening.

One thing that can happen is that buildings produce a resource that other buildings close to this building use. In that case workers from another building can come in and just take the product, e.g. if you produce metal bars in one building and a neighboring building makes tools then the workers producing tools might just take the metal bars from the smelting building. They will never show up in your storage.

I just had this happen to me with grain. I had a small farm and homestead and for 2 seasons i didn't get any grain from it even though it was being planted. I watched workers harvest it and deliver it to the warehouse but the number was just 0. I have production building waiting for this grain and nothing has been made yet for two harvests so those are not taking any materials. This is some SERIOUS bs in a game like this.
Sareseras Dec 15, 2023 @ 12:03am
Also curious what happens to materials that was being transported or processed like a freshly felled tree by a worker and then have the building moved so the workers reset.

The only confirmed instant consumption of objects I know about are the queens orders and glade missions which require 0 workers, but are obvious since it happens with your push of the button.

All the details points towards the topics issue being a bug indeed.
