So uh... what's so good about this?
Surprised to see this rated so highly, what do the people enjoy in this one?

I feel like I am missing something here.

So far in my ~25 hours I just use nearly the exact same pattern which always works in each game loop and it's incredibly boring...
Yeah, there are some extra difficulty layers and and a bit extra complexity added over the time but.... most of those seem ignorable and you keep doing essentially the same thing.

It feels like I am just repeating almost the same thing over and over pretty much no matter what game throws at me.

What difficulty are you playing on?
Unimportant Dec 10, 2023 @ 10:16am
You probably play on low difficulty. And there's nothing wrong with that.

i'm at 22hrs, playing at high paragon level and i feel the same, i'm not really enjoying the game. The difficulty is not the problem.

Well, not everyone will like AtS obviously, exactly as any other game. At least a few people were repelled just because they did not like town building game with a lot of RNG.

As for repetition, one thing you may want to change is difficulty. Game is so easy at lower difficulties, you can barerly loose a game no matter what you do. At higher difficulties you are more pressed to make good choices and they are not always available so you need to improvise.

Also are all games not about repeating itself? Warcraft? Starcraft? Counter Strike? Diablo? In these games you do exactly the same thing over and over again. There are some differences setting each game session apart from others, but so it is in AtS.

My first 3 maps after tutorial were pioneer > veteran > viceroy to see what the difficulty curve offers and after that exclusively hardest difficulty I could.

The game always essentially revolves around building some wood related production + some food production into trading... and that's kinda it, everything else is kinda optional based on goals you are given, but that already feels like an 'extra' that hardly matters aside of actually giving you the win.

If you play on highest difficulty possible, than either you have not yet reached your skill level, or just game loop is simply not to your liking. I do enjoy the fact that every Settlement is different but for some people the difference will be so small that they will not consider each game different.

You can either try going for higher difficulty, or decide this game is not for you.
Perhaps Queens Hand mode will prove to be a challenge, it is a recently added mode that you can unlock after reforging the last Seal, or you can look for a guide somewhere on this forum explaining how to unlock it without actually playing until you unlock it the normal way.

Did you really just say things that help you win don't matter? Lol, okay.

Anyways, sorry you don't enjoy the game. No game will please every person. See ya and hope you enjoy your next one more.

Maybe try climbing the prestige ladder?

Please tell us what your definition of hardest difficulty available means once you reach viceroy.
Please try not to use the words:
Prestige, climb, ladder or ascension.

Prestige 20

Although I stopped playing pre-foxes at Prestige 8 or so, I can pretty safely say the OP is not going to suddenly enjoy the game at higher difficulties than Viceroy. Doesn't sound like the game is for you.

You must be the best player ever if you were able to go from viceroy straight to prestige 20 considering the game itself prevents you from doing so!

(OP clearly was prestige climbing, that's what highest available means)

Yeah, based on what I figured from everyone speaking up so far I guess it's just not for me.

It might be more fun at prestige 20 but I got too burnt out on.... 8? 9? Around so, I don't really remember anymore and can't check since I just uninstalled.

I just got frustrated doing same thing over and over at the start of every map and for nearly half the duration of scenario... and then the rest of the map is simply being mostly RNG with no interesting handcrafted scenarios or anything.

It's kinda 'lots of mechanics' on paper but majority can be ignored in favor of the few that actually help you survive no matter what and win.
TripSin Dec 10, 2023 @ 2:14pm
For me, I'm quite addicted to the game at the moment. Feels like there is a good deal to learn in terms of getting to be more proficient and efficient and understanding the different mechanics better so that keeps my interested. And there are a lot of things to juggle while playing.
