Needs story campaign
I quite like the gameplay and lore of the endless storms. Overall, fun game.

But I really think we need a story of some kind. Not just "keep doing seals over and over", but a progression towards a final seal, with some kind of campaign behind it.

A story driven campaign would add so much. I know its a lot to asks for, but having one would make a huge difference.

I am not sure how it could fit in the game, but I would also like to see it. Dev surprised me at least few times with stuff they have added, so maybe there is hope. :)

Of course I do not mean Queens Hand game mode that is basically reserved for less than 10% best players, but an actual story that also casual players can experience.

The "Queen Hand Mode" probably count as one, and also a True Roguelike mode.
SUccessful mean you get the queen audience.
Probably the only way to get queen audience

Maybe not a full campaign, but more worldbuilding as we progress would be greatly appreciated.

Lori gives us some scraps, but I want more. Like, some characters to interact in the city, maybe see people get more hopeful as you do more seals which pushes back the storm for years (though the fact its implied all viceroys are sealing them all the time makes the cycle extension reward odd)

Yeah it doesn't have to be too crazy, just some lore as you continue towards a final seal, and objectives to drive it.
An example might be the campaign from They Are Billions, or Crying Suns. Barebones but enough.

Indeed. This game would definitely hold my attention for much longer with a story element. and it doesnt have to be anything fancy. For example another game series I love is GemCraft and during game progression, you get to read a page of the MC's diary of his experience with, for example, a new type of enemy and talks about his next move or goal. And there's maybe 20ish pages for the entire game, but it adds flavor to the game play and a feel of making progress and immersion into the world.

I agree. Hades set the standard for story in these types of meta-grindy roguelites. All we have is Aunt Lori who is working double duty as a tutor and a storyteller. They should add more characters and cutscene stories. The Brothers Grimmiverse in which this game practically demands it!

I am pretty sure the devs at some point had some ambition to include a more overarching narrative. I am now "only" 40 hours in, so who knows what is still ahead, but what function does "Mom" and her working for the evil queen have if not to create some kind of dilemma along the way? I totally agree that having somewhat of a finale to a story arc would be the icing on the already very delicious ATS cake!

My idea would be to have the player make the choice between nature or queen in the end. There could then be a map with either the queen's fortress or the forest's holy shrine and some insanely difficult debuffs and conditions. These endgame missions could be entirely optional too, since players could just decide not to partake and continue their endless runs.

Oh so the current progression is just a loop? Nothing at the end of it?
Rune Trantor Dec 13, 2023 @ 12:49pm
There IS a cutscene if you beat the Queen's Trial, but thats about it.

Aunt Lori is like 90% of the ingame lore by herself.
Gamerzilla Dec 13, 2023 @ 1:55pm
Have Aunt Lorie pop in and say stuff in your missions, and drop some additional objectives on you , optional or not, that the Queen (or maybe another rebel faction?) wants done. The more you do the objectives, the more the story unfolds, and if they make it multipath, there could even be different endings. That would be the way they could add a story easiest without changing the framework of the game IMO.

I would like to have this confirmed as well: Does the game just continue without any real "ending?

How would rebelling against the queen even work, if she is the only reason the storm doesnt wipe civilization off?

Unless we work on the premise/theory she is behind the breaking seals to keep everyone under her rule.
Samseng Yik Dec 13, 2023 @ 6:01pm
Not all game need such thing.
Even the legendary FTL and Slay The Spire just a simply
"You start with this, now go beat up the final boss" finish
Rune Trantor Dec 13, 2023 @ 6:23pm
Not the best comparison.
FTL has no plot development during the run yes, but it has a conclusion. You reach the final sector, and face the Flagship.
You also do see some snippets in events, like how the Cruiser is unlocked.

Here there is no 'flagship' just sectors forevermore.
The seals, which are spoken of as some progression that presumably would weaken the storm and ultimately end it, do not do so, and seems like all viceroys are sealing them all the time, rather than a big milestone for the people of the world.
