Is it too early to start a seal mission?
I have 8 years to start a seal mission, and I'm in a position to do so. I have the seal shards to do so. My questions is, why does it say that I'm starting the mission early? If I start a new mission elsewhere, won't it end the cycle on me without letting me do the seal mission, or will I still be able to travel to the seal and perform the mission after anyways?

you can start a seal settlement even if you have 0 years left, provided you are close enough on the world map to embark. even if you have 1 year left, start a settlement that lasts 10 years, you are going to be able to embark to the seal.

If you finish the next map in 7 (possibly 8) years or less you will still be able to do the seal level afterwards. I usually do the seals as soon as I can and would do so in your situation, but I'm not pro enough to guarantee an 8 year win.

The benefits of an extra round are only in terms of extra city resources & upgrades, or if there's a nearby event that grants extra starting resources for the cycle.

To avoid any confusion, take this as the correct answer and ignore the first part of my initial reply.
Ok, it's too late for my first cycle on this new patch, but the bronze seal has been conquered. Game obviously thinks I should be on settler, but I showed it! HA!

So just to clarify: If I have, say, 2 years left and do a normal mission that takes 7 years, can I still do a final seal mission after that or is the cycle over and I missed the chance to do the seal mission?

Yes, you can still do the seal mission as long as you are in range of the seal with your last settlement.
