In essence this is meant as an incentive to open another glade when you just did, you have to be fast, so mark a direct way through the trees and set your woodcutters to "only marked trees", but don't forget to set them to your default afterwards ;)
the reward they provide is similar to Dullahan's chests, minus the resources. If you choose the Corruption option, the reward is greater, but you suffer a penalty like losing a random perk.
I'm pretty sure they jump into the nearest dangerous/forbidden galde and give 4 minutes to pop the glade.
As a rough guess, it seems about 20% of small glades have a stag. So this is a very viable consideration. Now the rewards are not worth 5x15 = 75 hostility, but considering this is only one of the things you can gain from the small glades, it surely helps making the small glade viable.
Surely when you have quests that ask you to open x glades, think about this. Prepare any large ones you plan to open, but open nearby small ones first.
I think it depends what you are looking for.
If you need caches, i have learned to totally ignore the small glades. I am not sure but i think they contained many more in the past but the chance for these has been reduced dramatically to make place for the new stuff.
If you need fertile soil, they seem to be quite ok. Probably half the chance as a dangerous one for half the hostility cost.
Mostly of course, if you have a quest that asks you to open say 3 glades, you could either just leave it be until the final year, or you can do it now. And this is where these things like the stags come into play, they make it more enticing to do it now imo.
I have also found meself opening very many small glades with certain corner stones (like getting tools for opening glades) and a fox firekeeper.
All together, no just purely by themselves, small glades are not worthy of opening, but there are many factors that can situationally make them more favorable, and i think the stags should not be ignored in that whole picture. Their rewards are good and the chances of making it happen are not too bad.
Can someone clarify exactly what the benefits of greed vs empathy are? If it helps, I'm only on Settler, and I have plenty of resolve from the glade cornerstone.
Now I chose the Mist Pierсer perk, and started looking for these stag all over the map. And I found three of them! Gold, Black and Royal. All three are in adjacent glades, at the very edge of the map.
Now it finally became clear: I usually finish the game much earlier than I reach the edge of the map. And even in these cases, I am no longer interested in opening small glades.
If you choose the Corruption option, the reward is greater, but you suffer a penalty like losing a random perk. that's all there is to it.
