Shadowy Figure Tanking Resolve

Just started a new game after not playing for a while. In the mid of the first storm i got a "Shadowy Figure" resolve modifier of -10 for everyone. It still persists even after the storm. I have not even opened up any big glades and cannot find this in the map modifiers either. Only thing i have is gathering storm. Im on prestige 2 and this feels borderline unplayable. Am i missing something?

I do not recognize the name of this effect but given the -10 value it might have been caused by the forest mystery "Creeping Shadows".
Did you open any glades during the storm (including small glades)?

Yes i opened 4 small ones so far.

Ahhh it is the "creeping darknes" forest modifier. Guess i got it because i opened a glade during a storm. Thank you that solves my confusion.

That's one of the first conditions I check for, and why I almost never open glades during the storm.

Unless I start getting "X bonus for opening glades during storm" stuff and don't have that penalty.

One thing worth pointing out is that there's seemingly no in-game timer for Creeping Darkness which I remember being a problem in one of my runs (had cornerstone that granted tools when opening a glade during storm, but at one point I completely forgot the exact time I opened it and had no idea whether I should disable favouring a species and toggle consumption control etc... I ended up being off by almost a minute which caused someone to leave lol). Forced me to pay attention to when I opened future ones but it would be nice if there's a timer somewhere (unless I missed it).

There should be a timer in the Cornerstone symbol for Creeping Darkness... which is a little hard to spot.

I'm honestly hoping we get a list pane for the cornerstones so they're easier to read/spot.

Yeah i had a timed challenge for opening 4 glades. Usually i pull most lumber workers during a storm too. Another learning experience i guess. The missing timer is what put me off as well, thought i had to play with this for the whole run now.

Shadowy Figure debuff is quite nasty for what it is, too. A solid ten resource is usually enough to plunge at least harpies into GTFO mode without burning a lot of wood or coal. It's mostly just hard to remember that that modifier is in the current game, so you will just yolo into it and basically suffer for 3 straight minutes lol.

Even worse is if you forget it and accidentally time 2, 3, 4 glade rushes for Orders to be near each other (Like, the timed ones).
Mercifully, I haven't done *that* yet.

I just ran into this. How should I be able to know that this mechanic is in game? And is this in every game? It's not in the list of effects for this zone. I just looked through the list several times. There is no effect indicating that "Shadowy Figures" will appear when opening a glade during storm. I just hate those surprise game killers. I guess I'll lose 12+ settlers in this storm season and then just abandon the game

Are you sure? The forest mystery that gives this effect goes by a different name than "Shadowy Figures". Could you post a screenshot of the game? I'd be curious to see such what you are describing.

When you start a game there is a screen that shows the random modifiers you got. They can also be found in the top bar during the game. Very important to check for things like -10 resolve if you open a glade during storm or -5 resolve without housing.

I believe by zone you mean Royal Woodland, Coral Forest etc. Forest Mysteries are not dependant on the zone you play. Debuff giving -10 Resolve for opening a Glade during the storm ia a Forest Mystery, you can see all Forest Mysteries you will have to deal with when you begin a Settlement and also during the run youcan see them very close to the Hostility display.

I never looked at the effects at the top. I only ever looked at the effects at the bottom. Game is over now, but I'll pay more attention next time
