Unplayable. Crashes every few minutes to desktop
So frustrating. Did the typical reinstall and verify integrity. Drivers are up to date. Windows 11 RTX 3080 32GB 1TB SSD no problems with specs. Just bought the game last night got through the first...I guess...tutorial? And now I am onto the second one about making crops and it just crashes over and over at random intervals during this tutorial. Have other games installed from various developers and can play them no issue. This game for me is unplayable. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Edit: I discovered that it ONLY appears to happen when the autosave freezes the game for a half a second. Looks like the majority of the times it just stops and hangs the game and crashes it. I do not see any way to disable the autosave feature in the options either...

Do you have Citrix Receiver or Citrix Workspace installed?

I do not

Hmmm, being a roguelite they can't exactly disable autosave.

Does it crash if you regular close and save? (I know what you said in edit but double checking)

If you are absolutely certain you don't have Citrix I'd check your antivirus. It is possible the game is getting incorrectly flagged so you should be able to put Against The Storm in as an exception.

I can't imagine the other common causes really being a thing in your case.

Thanks for the reply.

OP: I have save and quite 3 times and it has closed and saved everytime.

OP: To better understand my background, I have been in the tech sector for over 10 years. With that being said, I can assure you that Citrix is not on my desktop computer primarily used for personal use. I maintain and administer antivirus protection software as one of my roles and this has been checked as well on this system. Currently, antivirus is not on this system since the issue has been discovered to isolate the problem.

I can't imagine the other common causes really being a thing in your case.
OP: If I were to guess, I would say its a subprocess when it saves, or its not doing something correctly when it saves but I am not sure...

Thought I was the only "lucky" one
My system is Windows 11, RTX 2070S, Intel Core i9-9900KF, 16GB, SSD 512.
In the main menu, games and systems freeze with the message "WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERROR". Sometimes it happens, it turns out, it plays for 1 minute and again BDOS.
There is an old laptop: Windows 10, i7 3630QM, GT 730M, 16 GB, 20-25 frames on the laptop, but the game is on.

Hey! I'm sorry to hear about your crashing issue. Let me try my best to help. Firstly, please check our troubleshooting article: https://eremitegames.freshdesk.com/a/solutions/articles/80000781533

We included there the most common solutions to the crashing problems. In the vast majority of cases, updating drivers or rolling back to their previous, more stable versions helped, but some situations are more complex. Please let me know if any of the suggestions helped. We also included information on what files might be useful for us if the solutions don't help.

Whenever a PC shuts down or a bluescreen occurs, it usually is a result of a driver conflict, hardware malfunction, or a system error. We also prepared a short article with possible solutions (you can find it here: https://eremitegames.freshdesk.com/a/solutions/articles/80001074583) although in this case, you might need to reach out to your hardware manufacturer support. I keep my fingers crossed that you'll be able to resolve the issue and continue playing!

Bump, black screen for me.

I was playing a run, and everything was going fine, but then the autosave after the first year caused my computer to lock up hard. The screen turned black, my monitor power button was slowly going on and off (usually it's just on), windows button didn't work, ctrl-alt-del didn't work, even the reset button on my tower wouldn't work (I had to manually power down and power back up). There was a small second or two of music after about twenty seconds of blackness but still unresponsive. When it rebooted I tried loading the game, same thing happens right after I hear the first notes of the opening song. That's about as far as I can get into the game now. Since the screen just goes black I don't get any error messages.

My drivers are all up to date and I'm not going to roll them back because the reason I updated them was I was having issues with other games because the drivers weren't up to date. I'll probably just set the game aside until I see an update to fix whatever is happening. Which is too bad because I really wanted to see the new Fox mechanics.

FYI here are my computer's specs:
Windsor 10, i5-4460 (3.2 GHz 4 CPUs), GTX 960, 16 GB, GPU was at 45 degrees when crash occurred.

If any other information is required please let me know.

EDIT: So it turns out there was a Windows update, which I did, and that did let me load the game to the last save. However, it had the exact same crash at the exact same time, but I managed to pin down it's source. It's not when the first year autosave happens, it appears to be when the first Dangerous Glade is opened.

I have the same issue, devs absolutely refuse to address the problem and just keep saying it's a driver mismatch. They can't be bothered to troubleshoot past telling you to just update your drivers because the devs are frankly trash unfortunately.

Hey Archgoose, I'm really sorry to hear about that and I'll do my best to help. I'm afraid that our actions are limited, though. As I mentioned in my previous message, whenever an entire PC shuts down, freezes, BIOS crashes, or there's a bluescreen, it usually means there's a driver conflict, some hardware malfunction, or an operating system error. I encourage you to try the solutions from this article: PC crashes or blue screen occurs[eremitegames.freshdesk.com].

You may also try lowering the graphic settings or disabling Complex Effects, but this could be compared to treating the symptoms instead of the actual problem.

You can also send us the zipped contents of your entire game saves folder (located here: %userprofile%\appdata\locallow\Eremite Games ) and we'll look into the files and try to figure out what is crashing and what can be another solution. You can send them to support@eremitegames.freshdesk.com or on Discord[discord.gg]. Thanks!

OP here. I gave up on the game. not worth the time fighting with a fix to a bug when they continue to blame drivers. All my other games are working fine...so do i roll back this driver to play this game? What if my other games don't work? It just doesn't make sense from a end user standpoint. If you see people having issues you should investigate it instead of always assuming its their problem. Also, its not a completed product either...you would assume the chances of bugs would be higher with devs being more concerned about this type of thing. oh well.... great idea for a game would have loved to play it for more than 5 minutes at a time.

Sad.
As the dev said, most of the time it's a driver issue but there is a few possible solutions ;
https://eremitegames.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/80000781533-game-crashes

Did you tried everything on the list?

I had a lot of crash issue too, it took me a lot of time to find out that I had to change my laptop power mode. Make no sense to me since I have no other issue with other games but it worked..

Sad you gave up :steamsad:
The game is damn nice.

I've also had two hard crashes today, took out the whole PC whilst everything else has been okay, the first one was probably my fault so I spent the day cleaning my PC checking my RAM and drivers, been playing games all day since, dd a lil bit of AoS in the evening and had a solid crash. Love the game, not had this issue in previous builds.
anarkya May 20, 2023 @ 2:16pm
Yes, it is crashing over here too. This is happening to only this game for some reason. At the start of the second mission, as i am switching between menus and choosing my buildings at the menu. I installed the latest NVIDIA gameready drivers too and no change, still crashing, black screen and no response i have to restart my computer. It only happens with this game. ¿What could it be?.

Update: i reduced graphic quality, removed Vsync and effects, removed full screen to full window, and it worked....for a few hours, then it crashed again just like before...Graphically this doesnt seem like the most demanding game, I have brutally demanding games that sinply dont crash like this one.

New user here with crashes as well.

That's what I did as well, helped but still crashes often - can't play one mission without a crash or few.
