Nearly Killed by Excess Meat
So I was in the biome where the trees can drop meat. Thus I thought it seemed completely reasonable to take the perk that increases meat production by 1, for every 25 produced.

Things were going great mid game, meat was plentiful, my crafters were churning out all the meat pies they could make. Felt like I was ahead of the curve. But then I noticed that my wood production was dwindling. Seemed odd I just added another logging caravan, and my wood supply was still dropping sharply.

Then I noticed the problem, every time that meat dropped the logging caravan became filled with meat. And the beavers were stuck carrying stacks of meat back to the warehouse. And all the meat just meant even more meat in the future, meaning their wagons became even more overfilled, and even more time carrying meat back the warehouse, it was growing exponentially....

My wood production was basically done for. Luckily, I had two coal mines up, so I sent the beavers to the coal mines. Another perk converted grain to oil, that helped. And the traders that came, was luckily carrying a whole stack of planks. It was just enough... Might not have survived the next storm without any wood to burn.

Just love the unexpected twist that my perk for excess meat production nearly did me in.

That's interesting and funny, glad you made it.

I'm still looking forward to that game (Coral Forest + Meat Specialization perk). And what I am also looking forward to is Marshlands + Forbidden Lands modifier... no luck so far.

In those games you have to think in other directions... :-D

The same can happen to you if you get marshland with mushroom specialization. You will get loads of mushrooms but none of the wood.

How many woodcutter camps do you run?
I did something similar on year 3 with two camps, and it was nowhere near that bad.

When in doubt. Oil!

Smother that damn hearth in the glorious oil!

I had this once, but it didn't at the time (a couple months back), spawn any of the huge nodes in the close by Forbidden Glades (I think I ended up with some 6 opened Forbidden Glades near the middle of the whole map).

I had 4 wood wagons. I am a slow turtle, grab as many normal glades as I can before doing a forbidden. My first two games finished in year 8 (viceroy, prestige 1), this one on prestige 2 took me to year 10 I think... Some of the extra time is due to getting the perk that shortens storms, so i think the years went by faster (didn't account for that downside, so while the storm is shorter, u have less actual time for the year).

That's hilarious. I had a similar run recently but I think I must not have been cutting meat trees bc this didn't happen, just the 'normal' wood shortage on coral.

Personally, I avoid Forbidden Glades a lot of the time.

Some of the events are brutal to complete, and getting a bad glade can really hinder a settlement, so Dangerous and even some small glades are the better option for me.

Also... yeah. Coral Forest and Scarlet Forest require some other kind of production for fuel.

I find a mine with carts and one speed upgrade is often enough.

For the record, the meat only comes from the musselsprout trees in that biome. You can just selectively cut the other three kinds of trees if you don't want meat.

Coal mining or picking up a recipe to turn the meat into oil also works.

Only the curly trees drop meat--you can just chop the spiky pink trees or the flat leaves palm trees.
That said, that perk on coral forest is actually amazing (it gets even sillier if the drizzle mystery was the one that doubled bonus resource from trees--one or two chops can fill the entire camp with meat and some bars... and only 2 wood).

throw the meat into packs, buy all the fuel you want

Oh, I hope that has been fixed if no huge nodes spawn. Maybe the day will come where I can check for myself if this is still the case (I would open a bug report then).

Nearly killed by lack of meat, no kidding :/

Current grievances aside, on topic - this is one of the strongest, if not the strongest start you can have. Its almost an auto-win. You simply open 5 woodcutter camps and exploit the meat any way you can - cook it, pack it and sell it, sell it raw, whatever. Purchase fuel, luxury stuff, complex food, purchase your way to victory from resolve. If you have harpy its an autowin.

Just started the next biome in the sealed forest...and they are all 10% meat trees ("dying trees"), every single tree. But yeah, last biome, maybe I could have avoided all the venus fly trap trees, although that was about 1/2-1/3 of the trees.
