Woodcutter math
If you cut and sacrifice wood, how many/which cornerstones would you need to be "profitable"? If anybody likes doing math for fun, run the numbers for us

Profitable in terms of what? Net hostility?

The maths can't just "be done" because there are too many variables. Sacrificing wood gives -50 hostility, which lets you work two more woodcutters (48 hostility). How much wood this burns depends on lots of things, not just perks, but also citadel upgrades. For me (not quite maxed out) it's 36 wood per minute. So to break even I'd need each wood cutter to make 18 wood per minute. That depends not just on perks, but also on: what kind of trees, how close the camp is to the trees, how close the camp is to warehouse, if the cutters are beavers, any speed modifiers, etc...

That's not even talking about what happens if you first convert the wood to coal and then sacrifice that.

But, in short, you're very unlikely to get this to work without an exceptional set of circumstances. Sacrificing stuff in the hearth is what you do *after* you've reduced hostility by other means (like removing wood cutters).

Profitable in leftover wood after negating their own hostility.
Are there better trees, or just more stuff that they give?

Assume (spherical) beavers cutting down no-impurity trees at the doorstep of the camp, ignoring emptying time (in a vacuum)

I know i won't generally do it, but i find this kind of math the exact amount of fun where i want somebody else to do it

Trees give different bonuses resources in different biomes, sometimes it's extra (chance of) wood. This is super obvious in the one that has 3 different types of trees mixed together. In all cases, the stuff you get for free from trees is massively important in the game economy.

As for your other approximations, there's no point calculating it like that: walking time is at least as big as actually chopping time. So you won't even get a vaguely useful answer if you try to compute it that way.

Not to mention that you are sounding a little entitled and demanding here...

Sorry. didn't mean it that way. I mean, it's fun, but more fun to read about it that to do the math myself. Maybe somebody who thinks it's fun would like to do it. Maybe somebody who thinks it's fun did it already for themself and would post.

Is walking that big? the other resources usually take about 4/15 slots on my camp's storage, not nothing, but ingnore for now territory

Do you know the base time for cutting down a tree and mining? The production buildings say the duration of production, but I don't think gathering ones do

Gathering and mining do, wood cutting don't. I keep meaning to time it but always get distracted lol

My impression after this last game is that max level beavers with only Woodcutter's Prayer cut faster than they burn

Btw, does beaver firekeep help for sacrifices? Says "fuel" in the text, so shouldn't, right?

I'd estimate roughly 10 seconds per cycle, but each tree has 2 charges and a single woodcutter has to walk back to drop off the resources and the AI seems rather inconsistent about assigning two workers on the same tree, even if its the only one marked.

Not to mention plenty of other factors, woodcutter-related perks etc. in practice.

Yeah pretty sure it doesn't. Outside of very indirectly (using less fuel for the hearths leaving you a bit more to burn).
