Marked trees not being prioritized.
Early in the tutorial they point out the Axe icon at the bottom of the screen you can mark trees with. My wood cutters are not cutting down the trees I've marked. Wondering if I missed something. I try to click on a beaver and then click the tree itself, but it seems you don't one to one controller any of your units, which is fine, but I'm just wondering why they're not cutting the trees I'm telling them to. Or maybe they just don't follow those orders in the tutorial mission?

I may have figured this out on my own. Is there possibly a range limit on how far marked trees can be from your woodcutters camp? I was trying to clear out some trees further from my camps when I first posted, but if I select closer trees, my wood cutters seem to follow the order.

Hey! They should definitely follow your orders in the tutorial.
There are a few things you could check:
  • Is the marked area within the Woodcutter's Camp working radius? When you click on the Woodcutter's Camp, an overlay will appear.
  • In the Woodcutter's Camp there are two options to enable/disable and one of them is "Avoid opening glades". If it's checked, your Woodcutters won't cut trees that would open a glade.
  • If you hold Alt when marking trees, it won't mark trees that would open the glade if cut.
And you got it right - you never control specific units, but rather assign them to buildings.

Ah yes, Woodcutter Camps have radiuses in which they operate.

Thanks for the quick reply. The radius system became a lot more obvious when making some of the other camps. My mistake with the woodcutter camps was easily fixed thanks to how easy you guys made it to move buildings around. Having a great time so far.

Notice that not all buildings can be moved!

I believe holding "Control" is what prevents the marking tool from opening a glade.

Holding "Alt" simply toggles the cursor between add+ and subtract- markings

Indeed!

We made several changes in regards to cutting trees since release. Here are some useful shortcuts and options:
  • F - enter Marking Trees mode
  • G - enter Clearing Marked Trees mode
  • Shift (while in Marking Trees mode) - smaller marker
  • Ctrl (while in Marking Trees mode) - exclude trees on the edge of glades
  • Alt (while in Marking Trees mode) - change to Clearing Marked Trees mode
  • You can also set one of five available woodcutting options in each Woodcutters' Camp
  • Holding Shift while clicking on a woodcutting option in Woodcutters' Camp will propagate it to all available Woodcutters' Camps
  • You can select the default woodcutting option in the game's Options

I somehow did not notice that short-cut! I'll definitely be using it multiple times a run.

I don't see it is mentioned anywhere in the game.

It's on the tooltip when you hover over any of the Woodcutting Options radio buttons ^^

I used control to mark the trees near a glade. It was discovered anyway (see screenshot below). Am I missing something about the discovery process?
