Steampunk parts

How do you accumulate steampunk parts for upgrades?

The past few games, I only accumulated food, so I hit a roadblock for gaining upgrades.

Not played yet, but from videos on youtube:
On the overworld map when choosing your setlement location you can see what resources each tile gives. Most give food, but especially event tiles have parts.
There were also some events during gameplay that gave parts (not sure if crates, Dangerevents or royal edicts.).

Hey! Tam's right - you can gather other resources (Machinery, Artifacts) by building cities next to World Map modifiers (the special hex tiles which alter the gameplay in some way).

There also other ways to get them:

1. by opening treasure chests you find on the World Map
   
2. as influence rewards (for competing with factions) after ending the Cycle (on the World Map)
   
3. by playing Daily Expeditions
   
4. or by solving Glade Events and choosing to keep the goods (the rewards are random, though)

Thanks for the replies. They're very helpful. On a side, I enjoy the game very much. There is also a lot of opportunity to enhance the game further, which sounds like an objective of the developer team.
