The sword parry skills suck

Sword gets 2 parry skills on mid stance but what's he point? They can only parry human attacks and they are so hard to connect. Miss 1 and you're already half dead. And why do we need two???

Yeah, tempest with backwave is really good. Carried me through a lot of the human bosses in The Abyss.

The timing seems odd at first but the key is to parry a bit earlier:

not gonna lie haze is very cool but the fact that it takes up a skill input when i can use backwave as the human counter skill just kills it for me

Thats not easy like parry in other games, but yes, it works!
The best parry to do with sword is Backwave (press L1 on mid stance in the right time). Its useful to break more easily human ki.

The only parry that works on enemies that are not humans its Bolting Boar skill, with Odachi.

Thing is why would I want to parry a Yokai when I can break their horn, flank them and get free hits in, destroy their ki, ect.. With human enemies like Ren if you aren't abusing tonfas and doing zero ki combos on him then you absolutely have to eventually learn to parry but for Yokai their openings tend to be so large that it just slows down your aggressive gameplay.

Never used the sword one only the dual sword one in mid stance. Imo I don't really think the sword is that good. It's good during early game but then kind of sucks late game.

The triangle one where you grab the opponent's weapon? That one kinda sucks too
Dual swords also have the block & attack one on square. That's one's surprisingly decent but seems like some enemies just have high poise and then they ignore your stab and keep chaining attacks
