Nioh 2 is essentially an expanded Nioh, revolving around Yokai Shift and Burst Counters. They imo suck compared to the generalist GS in Nioh, being overspecialized. Be prepared to see a LOT of repeat elements and types. Elements are toned down, with the best one being completely gone and the second best being split. Onmyo is far better in this game. Ninjutsu suffered from Kunai nerf, but both were expanded substantially. Nioh 2 is harder than Nioh, loosening somewhat after Mission 4 and Region 4. Sadly, that is where the game starts getting hard. Quality pf life improvements are across the board, with some exceptions, but you need them.
I would go for Nioh to see if you like the style, then go on to Nioh 2 if possible. Both are better than Dark Souls 1 and 2, and even with Bloodbourne, Dark Souls 3, and Elden Ring imo.
The gameplay in Nioh 2 is better, and I have it set to only show cutscenes the first time. So you can see the story once, then never have to worry about it again. You can ignore it after the first playthrough, and just focus on the gameplay instead, which I greatly prefer.
Nioh 1 might have a better story, but neither one is particularly great in the story department. The gameplay is, and should be, the start of the show, and Nioh 2 is better in that regard.
I got bad news for you if you think a few simple special moves being added makes a game convoluted
You know why else I like Nioh better, because I liked Iai Quickdraw.
wow that's a super defensive reaction and I didn't even say anything yet, yikes
I said I had bad news for you, nobody attacked you
