you're on nioh but I can't really tell what graces you're using, you should have some REALLY powerful stuff available by now like susanoo increasing your damage by 60% at max stacks of versatility (if you were using weapon skills)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqoJ1v2jI8A
Graces still might be worth looking into, though. All my gear is ethereal, lvl 190 (+45), and tempered for better bonuses, but little if any of it is matched. I haven't been grinding, so the stuff in my item box is basically what I've gotten from main missions. When I look into the sets or graces I have 4 or more of, they tend to seem underwhelming or irrelevant.
Are there any especially good ones other than Susano I should consider? I mean, you can see from the video where I beat him I use Moonlit Snow Redux a lot. I'll use Waking Winds or a couple of the others when they're relevant, but I feel like if I had Versatility, I'd either get myself killed trying to do a bunch of DMC ♥♥♥♥, or more likely, never take advantage of it.
well there are similar graces to susano such as ame no uzume which rewards you for not getting hit or acala's grace which rewards blocking instead, I'd also personally recommend to use the 'familiar' onmyo magic as a 'passive' way to generate debuffs on your opponent for the all important CONFUSION status effect which gives you even more damage
take a look at the graces you have and see what you like, they will boost you A LOT, I'm surprised you aren't using any already actually, might make the game too easy for you in that case ;)
The crab shift will also protect you from grapples if you're worried about grabs. In terms of cost, the crab is stupidly cheap (3 or 4 attunement and roughly the same anima cost).
IF i remember correctly, even the caltrops will remove them if they step on it.
Personally, I think your ippon could have interrupted a good chunk of his attacks early on (and thus save you from taking multiple hits). Also, you can consider trying Tiger's blade; you'll actually avoid his ice blade swings at close range and shave off a good chunk of his anima if you have the timing down. Crashing wave is also stupidly broken if you just need to land one attack in with decent anima damage.
Barrier Talisman will auto clear yokai pools and speed up your ki regen (early in the fight that's what i notice you didn't have it on).
If you had a water stop talisman, you would not be taking as much damage as you did from his ice blade attacks. Otherwise, for status protection/debuff prevention, drink Daion Jin's sake (prevents and removes all negative status effects for an entire minute i think).
Don't forget you can use 6 different yokai abilities.
If you want to use a yokai ability but don't like the soul core, you can set it at your secondary spirit. During the combat, you can change your spirit, use the ability then immediately change back.
my own clear in a DotN scroll to showcase everything i'm about to say. i'm using a sword because i don't play odachi, but an odachi should have all the tools swords have.
1. prioritize ki breaking. notice in the clip how they just melt the second their ki depletes. enemies don't just go into stunlock when their ki breaks, they also take much more damage. when there's an opening don't just tap light attack, this isn't dark souls. spam skills that do heavy ki damage, which are usually kicks, airwaves and pummel strikes. once their ki is broken you pull out all the heavy damage moves you have and watch them get deleted. every weapon should have a chain for when the opponent is ki broken.
2. daidara core is busted af. it makes you immune to grabs, guarantees a stagger unless the boss is transforming or doing a red flash move, does ♥♥♥♥ tons of ki damage and can cancel from everything. you can use it for a double ki break (when their ki bar fills with red until they are open to a finisher), use it to cancel out of a mistake, or just knock the boss out of a move you don't feel like dealing with.
3. save your transformation until their ki breaks. the best use of a transform is when they are open to a finisher, whereupon it does the finisher which is much stronger than the human one, and gives you time to charge your first attack. don't pop it just because it's up.
4. the best transformation attack is your charged attack. like daidara core it's a guaranteed stagger. use them together and you can loop the boss to death as shown in the video.
Crashing wave is from the guard + attack. I typically set it to low stance so I literally "weave in" and slam into the enemy and out in rapid succession. It is very effective against fast moving enemies that normally rolls away from your Odachi attacks at higher difficulties (such as hanzo and hayabusa).
It also works reasonably well with 'Masterful Slice' added to it. It's probably the most easily spammed skill in Odachi because it also costs far less ki than the other active skills.
