Also try to fight some revenants to get some green gears.
Kinda destroys your own argument if you're calling the game bad and continue to play it without changing/improving your approach...
But I'll add my 2 cents here.
1. I'm guessing you aren't using your stances effectively and switching between them... it took me a long long time to get outta single stance.
2. Use fire or Kasha as others have said
2a. Assuming you're still on NG (or NG+), the boss literally melts from fire + purity for Confusion.
3. Water stop and/or Electric stop talisman may help you a bit in status immunity and elemental resistance here.
For the achievement, make sure you gave benkei 2 arrows and hit the gong in the corner with a strong attack (the thing breaks after 2 hits and will not be repaired on retry). Benkei's support is very helpful if you're having trouble dealing with the extra crabs.
good luck.
Agree, but forgive me for just one correction.
If I remember right, unlike Umi-bozu from the first game, although this boss is weak to fire, he cannot be scorched. So, no confusion.
you are correct uminyudo can't be scorched
Even if i switch stance right and do a full combo on a yokai with zero ki in the dlc area, I am only chipping away 15% of its health tops. Everything outside of normal human enemies take too damn long to kill. Even the human enemies that I think are "minibosses" like the one splitstaff guy in the 1st dlc 2nd mission took forever to kill, every hit on him barely scratched him, and he blocks constantly and have so much ki that I am always would be out before he does even if I switch stance constantly to ki pulse.
what are you still using purple gear or something? go to dream of the strong and get yourself some divine gear with a couple of + levels on it, then you'll find things much easier
you need better gear then fam. Go farm some green gear, get your build right. id start with just going and farming for better gear. depending on where you are will change where you might wanna go. if your just starting out dream of the strong then usually the first stage people will jump off the cliff at the beginning and there are tons of revenants to fight for better stuff. I would start there if you havent. Otherwise it depends on where you are in the game. I would suggest just looking up the best farming spots depending on what stage you are on and getting some better stuff. that'll help a ton. as for the boss as other people have said:
use fire. and also target its weak points almost exclusively. you could use fire oni bi and kasha to help you out. personally I use ippon datara alot as a combo bridge and it does fire damage as well and is pretty quick to use as a reaction.
The idea is to hit the glowing parts on his arms when he slams them down, or chip down his Ki using your weapon attacks and Yokai Abilities to knock him over (Kiryoki and Kasha are good options).
Once he's knocked down, his face will be exposed and he will take extra damage if you hit his face.
As others have mentioned, Fire does extra damage to him, but he can't be Scorched, Saturated or Electrified. The only 2 Status Elements he can be inflicted with are Purity and Corruption. Since both are mutually exclusive, Confusion is impossible to apply.
After he recovers from being knocked down, he will change form to his smaller self. He doesn't have damage reduction here, so it's a good time to focus on damaging him as much as you can.
As Cows mentioned, if you gave Benkei 2 arrows he will fire them if you hit the Gong in the arena with a Strong Attack. You'll want to hit the Gong when the extra Crab enemies spawn, typically at the first form change, or after he goes back into the water to change forms (you'll have to check).
The Gong only has to be hit once, you don't need to hit it again afterwards. Benkei at this point will automatically shoot the arrows once the Crabs spawn again.
You probably don't have to farm a Divine Weapon since the Final Boss (of the main game) drops a Divine Weapon for every weapon type once defeated.
For damage issues, I'm not sure what to mention since you haven't shared what Weapon you're using. Figuring out what Active Skills deal more damage can help, as well as using Yokai Abilities/Soul Cores more frequently.
Lastly, I'll link a video clip of footage I recorded not too long ago if it helps as a reference: https://youtu.be/gJKW12zdXQE
