secondary weapon...
quick question would hatchets be a good secondary to axe? also sense my primary "axe" is a corruption weapon thinking on either water or thunder for the element for my secondary weapon. should i go with one of the hatchets that come with inbue element or should i temper one onto a different hatchet if so which one?

water makes the enemy take more damage so that's awesome, I'd pair it with a pure or corrupt weapon, and sure you can go for hatchets, it's sort of a technical weapon though if you want combos to flow nicely

plus you get the whole theme of being an axe man cos of all the axes you have

if you want corruption hatchets use the barbarian hatchets, if you want water you could use the wave cutter hatchets they have a decent secondary skill

What's the purpose of your secondary weapon?
I use the secondary weapon mainly on enemies that using my main weapon feels difficult to fight. That means my secondary weapon is actually my main weapon when fightning these enemies, so having the same element will suit the build better.

Also, you don't need your secondary weapon to proc another elemental effect. That seems good on theory, but not easy to accomplish. Instead you can use magic, ninjutsu, spirit attack, yokai abilities which are far more effective than weapon attacks.

Hatchets are primarily built for zoning enemies and playing keep-away, which Ninjutsu and Onmyodo do better, so I don't really recommend them. They're kinda awkward.

Axe is big and slow, but very strong, so it has trouble dealing with very agile enemies. Low stance speeds it up nicely, but its reach is still problematic.

For a secondary weapon, I'd recommend a yokai kusarigama, splitstaff, or switchglaive. Something a bit faster and with superior reach.
Wow, I mean, you guys didn't even suggest Tonfas as an option.

Personally, I recommend using Hammers (Shuten Doji Club) over an Axe any time since constitution as a stat is much better than stregnth (IMO), which also scales with Tonfa.

You can also simply refashion the hammer to an axe look if it is a style thing.

Hatchets are OK if you feel a need to space yourself from an enemy, but in my experience, Tonfas is a far superior choice as 2nd option for Axe/Hammer.

Edit: Saw your other post about getting bored, I still recommend Tonfas if you want to keep the Axe/Hammer weapon style going.

Oh, finally someone said that.
Exactly.
And stamina can be changed to magic, making it scaled with magic, constitution, courage, which is a perfect combination.

And tonfa is indeed a very good weapon. I even think if you use tonfa, you may not need another weapon. The downside is that it is difficult to farm a good purity or corruption one. Also the special ki pulses need sometime to get used to.

Its not true that hatchets are a distance weapon, its what you think when looking at them on the surface, but they are very mobile and quick. But they are a bit more advanced playing them properly.
