Is every boss in this game as terrible as Enenra?
I -was- having a lot of fun until I got to this dumpster fire of a boss. Is "Tedious, overinflated damage sponge" just how this game does bosses?

i struggled with snake UNTIL i started to block its tail and fight it face to face all the time. after that, i can farm it without spending more than one elixir per any fight with it. block indeed can be very important.
enenra needs patience and not be greedy. better skip doubtful opening, than lost 1/2 of health.
mezuki can be killed under 1.5 minutes. using heavy weapon, depletes its ki fast, but the moment it enters dark realm, switch to yokai form and just bash it with light attacks in yokai form. that exterminates mezuki.

No offense but this thread is no different than the countless threads on the Elden Ring forums (or any Fromsoft game) complaining about bosses being unfair, or about getting one-shot, or about the controls being unresponsive by people who haven't learned the games' mechanics yet and just want to vent their frustration.

You say that Enenra is genuinely unfair? Every single attack is telegraphed and easy to avoid and then punish. All burst attacks are easy to counter and punish. There are clear openings for you to attack him. The boss should take 3-5 minutes if you're playing it safe and slow, but can be done much faster.

The only explanation I can think of for how you spent over 10 minutes hitting him and he was still not dead is that you're using a very low level weapon or you're playing barehanded.

Meanwhile, in Elden Ring you have a boss that heals on every attack even if you block it and has an insane combo that one-shots you from full HP with high vigor. Not to mention that she cancels stagger and knock-down animations which is against the rules that the game itself established. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9Vbsr3Ko7M

Don't get me wrong though, I love Elden Ring and Malenia is one of my favorite bosses. But the idea that she's fine, but an easy, completely telegraphed boss like Enenra is unfair is quite the claim.

All I said about Malenia was that I beat her.

I never said Enenra's attacks are unavoidable, I said he's a ridiculous damage sponge. If you're going to design bosses to just be tanks that take no damage, you can't also let them instantly kill you off of one mistake after making you spend ten minutes grinding their health bar.

I never said the controls were unresponsive, I said this game has ♥♥♥♥ bosses.
Something I'm not sure was mentioned, but gear and attack/defense lvls on equipment matters in the early game most of all. Just throw on highest damage weapon and most def you can stack under 70% weight and then try enrenra again

Edit: also with the easy saturation debuff, if you get purity to proc you get bonus damage from the additional confusion debuff that two elemental debuffs simultaneously earn you.

i dont wanna alarm you but... Enenra is easy compared to the others ... i had more trouble fighting yatsu no kami xD
Enenra is probably one of the easiest yokai bosses in the game because his predictable attacks with short range.

you fight enenra later in a sub mission and hes so over levelled in it. hes a lot more fair in the first fight. the sub missions version seems to only take chip damage off everything. when you fight him in jurakudai hes so much easier than that.

Man, I wonder what the "souls-like" tag meant to you when you bought the game...

I'll concede the difficulty at the first run through in the first chapter can feel crushingly one-sided, but it gets much better once more yokai abilities, weapon skills, and support ninjutsu and magic become available.

If you can't go beyond that, I get the feeling you just want someone to affirm your opinion rather than figuring out what you did wrong or how to improve.

Regardless, I think it is your loss to stop, because no other souls-like games has offered what Nioh 2 has in terms of combat and build options.

Disclosure: I've spent at least 80 hours to complete the first game cycle without any experience in Nioh 1. If you're great at this game, you can most likely clear it under 20 hours easily.

Are you implying terrible bosses are a staple of souls-like games? I've beat every boss in DS1 and DS3 solo, beat DS2 (Not every boss but still offline only), beat Bloodborne, Beat Sekiro, and beat Elden Ring (Including Malenia). Even the worst bosses in any of those games are infinitely more enjoyable than the ones in Nioh. These bosses genuinely don't feel fair, which turns what was a pretty fun game at first into a miserable chore. I'm on the third(?) boss of the game and I already just want this to be over.

I'd love to learn whatever secret hidden technique makes these fights enjoyable, but I've heard nothing of the sort so far. It's not like I uninstalled and left a negative review, I've just been stuck on this stupid snake for 6 hours because I keep dying to what GENUINELY feels like jank.

Have you ever considered the idea that you're garbage at the game? And that you're letting your "Souls vet btw" mentality get to your head? Rolling is not hard, and Souls bosses are built in an extremely binary way where "roll until opening then stab" is not only the main approach, but what every boss is built around pacing-wise and hp-wise. Of course something so simplistic would induce you in error when it comes to Nioh bosses since the game expects a lot more from you mechanically. If you don't even use the tools the game gives you to pressure enemies and you play too passively, you'll get your "hp sponges" like you mention. Heck, the higher difficulties even punish you for playing passively with the Curse mechanic.

What ACTUALLY happened, was someone claimed I don't know anything about the genre, so I responded by saying I've played most of them and beat most of the bosses in said games.

Everyone keeps talking about how I "Refuse to use the tools the game give me", when I just recently acquired SOME of those tools in the past hour AFTER killing two bosses without them. It's not like I was sitting on all these items and buffs and just not using them, I literally did not have them yet.

Ninjutsu and onmyo are completely unnecessary in the first playthrough. I started using them in the dlc missions just because I wanted to finish the dojo missions. You can basically brute force the whole game depending on your gear.

You can pretty much brute force as long as you keep your main weapons at least up to level witch is easy by just slapping some revenants.
Stats can be spread out evenly on all stats and its still fine.

The funny thing is that if someone made a thread like this on a Souls forum everyone would be shi*ting on them and mocking them with "git gud" type comments to no end. But with non-Fromsoftware games people are a lot more polite.

I hardly implied anything - I merely pointed out the fact that souls-like games are very punishing when you make a mistake.

Bosses and trash mobs (can) deal 1 shot kills in this genre of games when you f*ck up without preparation, that's all there is to it.

At this point, you are merely showing more of the fact you are butt-hurt because where you succeed in other games did not apply 100% in this game. (Yet another reminder that Nioh has a completely different game mechanics).

On another note ...

I have read that you completed enera at level 13? That s impressive, if only because I grinded a bit longer and fought him at between level 15-20.

But yeah, whatever - it is really your loss if you quit.

You keep going on about damage sponge this and one shot that. Are you using onmyo or ninjutsu at all?
You can get like 2x+ damage if you stack saturation (Water debuff) + confusion (2 element debuffs at the same time) + some attack buff and defense down debuff, and on the defense side you've got attack reducing talisman + defense increase talisman and even on that just lets you ignore a certain amount of damage or come back to life if you manage to die somehow.
