Lantern Plant Fruit possible bug

I've started a new play through and just got the lantern plant fruit but every time I tried to use it I just got that ding you get when you can't do a thing like trying to aim when you don't have a ranged weapon equipped.

Anybody know what's up with this?

Ah... that's because you need to unlock yokai abilities to actually use anima (which the fruit provides).

I think it's more of an overlooked issue than a bug.

Nioh 2 is notoriously lacking in some details.

I can think of 2 things:
1. You missed the soul core by skipping the Enki, but that shouldn't be because you should still be able to use your burst counters
2. You're full on anima

I have the soul core and also I am not full on anima... do I have to beat the first boss first?

okay, got it working, it was that I was full on anima, hadn't equipped a core yet so couldn't spend. I had mistaken anima for the stuff that gives you your yokai shift.
