Can't seem to clean
I loaded into the van job. I can move around fine, but no matter what nozzle I use it does not seem to clean any dirt off. Something in the game or something I am doing wrong?

For those who are currently experiencing an issue where they cannot clean:

As mentioned in our previous update, we believe the problem stems from certain GPUs not supporting Direct X 11.1+. Note that while you may have this or a newer version of Direct X installed, if the GPU is not fully compatible with some of these features you will have been unable to clean anything. If your card does have this feature support, you should be able to resolve the issue by forcing an update to your DirectX, Windows OS & graphics drivers. Please see our previous announcement for more details, including how to check if your GPU is compatible and to make sure that if you’re playing on a laptop, the app is launching on your dedicated GPU where available https://steamcommunity.com/app/1290000/discussions/2/3111403360738183508/.

We want as many people as possible to enjoy our game, so have been working hard on a change in our code which should allow older hardware to run it. We have made a build and have confirmed that it has fixed the issue on the older gaming laptop we were able to reproduce it on. However, as we are unable to confirm the fix on more than this single laptop, we would like more information before pushing this build as the default and have made it available in a branch on Steam.
If you have been unable to clean and are happy to help us confirm it is fixed, please follow the steps below, being sure to change to the “Legacy” wash system setting in the in-game options once ready:

• Open Steam
• Right click on PowerWash Simulator in your Library
• Choose “Properties”
• Choose “Betas”
• Enter the beta access code: LegacyWashSystem
• Select “Opt into: legacy_washing_beta – Legacy wash system test”
• Steam should now download the new build
• Once the update is complete, launch the app
• In the main menu, select “Options”
• Select the “Graphics” tab
• Change the “Washing Mode” to “Legacy” – ***If you do not change this setting, your experience with the game will not be affected, please make sure this is done before attempting to clean***
• Load up the first job in Career Mode and attempt to wash the Van
• Press F8 to send us a report to let us know if this has resolved the issue

Note that while we hope this has allowed the game to be played on more hardware, it’s possible that your PC/Laptop still does not meet the minimum recommended specifications and you experience poor performance. If you are finding you have a low frame rate, please open the Options menu and try the following in the Graphics tab:
• Disable “Wetness VFX”
• Change the render scale to 0.75 (or lower as required)
• Change the “Quality Presets” to Low

If you continue to experience poor performance then it is likely that your hardware is not supported. Please revisit the minimum recommended specs on our Store Page https://store.steampowered.com/app/1290000/PowerWash_Simulator/ to confirm.

As this is a test, it’s very important that we get results! Please let us know what impact this fix has had on your experience by using F8 in game or our discord https://discord.com/invite/powerwashsimulator.

Important note: This hotfix has been implemented in an isolated branch of the project and contains no other fixes or content updates, though I can assure you that we’re hard at work on both and will give an update when we’re ready!

Finally, if you are not experiencing the issue this change is addressing (firing the washer at any dirty object does not remove any dirt) then testing this branch and changing to “Legacy” settings will have no positive impact on your experience. If we make this change to the live build, you should remain on the “Standard” system if it’s been working so far.

*Update, just marking this so people can see it*

I have had the same issue, and I run all my games from steam on a different drive to my os (like you I use an ssd for my os and a massive hdd for steam games). This would be the first instance I have heard of where something like that would cause such an issue. Every other game I play runs flawlessly with this setup. I'm leaning towards incompetent developers, or some weird unity bug that only affects certain nvidia cards/drivers.
I don't really think this is the issue, either. I'm just grasping at straws and it was one idea (albeit one that is exceedingly unlikely) that we hadn't looked at, so I thought it was worth mentioning.

For more context and potential workarounds from our graphics programmer:

The difference between the demo and the full release of the game is that we use some newish features of DirectX 11 and that seems to be what is causing issues. It seems to fall into two categories:

- Older graphics cards and integrated GPUs
- Some configurations of 10 Series Nvidia cards running on Windows 7

If updating your graphics drivers doesn't work one thing you can try is updating your version of DirectX to the latest one for your OS. If that doesn't work please let us know what version you upgraded to. The more data we have the better our chances are of finding a fix for the issue!

Again we'll keep everyone updated on our investigations too!
"Newish" features of DX11? DirectX 11 has been around for years. There's really nothing new it can do. I've played all sorts of games that use DX11, most of which are far more graphically intensive that stress the GPU than this one, and I've never had anything close to a problem like this.

I think you're seeing correlation more than anything. The most common desktop Nvidia GPU at the moment is the 10 series, and you're more likely to find older dedicated GPUs (or integrated GPUs) on laptops.

It certainly isn't limited to Windows 7 at all. This same problem has occurred on Windows 8 and Windows 10 according to self-reports in this thread.

As for updating video drivers and DirectX, none of that seems to make a difference. Numerous people have tried updating their drivers to no avail, and there's nothing new to update to as far as DX11 is concerned. You might find something new on Windows 10 with DX12, but this game uses DX11 so whatever's happening with DX12 is more or less irrelevant (and even then, the "can't clean" and "flickering" issues still seem to be present on Windows 10).

I think what you need to do is poll those people whose game is working correctly. You need to see that data to have something to compare it to our data. It may not give a clear answer (in fact, I doubt it will) but you need something more to work with than just the data you've collected about us because there's virtually no common denominator among us other than we've got Intel processors, Nvidia GPUs, and we're running Windows 7/8.1/10. That doesn't say much.

Hey all, sorry you are all having problems adn thanks for all of these reports our devs are currently investigating this issue, if at all possible could you drop a report in game with F8 on the keyboard, it gives us all the data on your hardware which can help us solve this issue as it seems to be based on hardware or software interactions.

I have sent the bug report, hope it could help you debug
Win 7 Pro 64
i5-3550
GTX 960

since my drivers WERE really kind of old, i tried updating them. i went from 451.48 to 466.47.

i also checked and i was already on directx 11.1, the most up to date version for my OS.

no dice. still the same issue, cant clean anything, and i am also getting the flickering on the van that some others are reporting.

already submitted a report via f8 a few days ago. (before updating my drivers, but that doesnt seem to be the problem, so eh)

hopefully they can find a fix in the next week or so, otherwise theres gonna be a LOT of people refunding right before the two-week cutoff.

I tried to update my stuff too, most of it already was updated :/ I'm still having the problems.
I really hope there will be a solution. I'm running some graphic intense games without problems,l so I don't understand why I can't run this game. Sadly. My OCD was so excited when I first started it.

Sadly its time to refund.... before my refund window expires...
I just noticed something. One person in this thread posted that although the game doesn't work properly (i.e. can't clean anything and there's flickering present) on his desktop, it DOES work on his laptop.

Here's what he wrote:

Doesn't work on my PC -
Windows 7
i7-4790k
GTX 1070

Does work on my laptop -
Windows 10
Ryzen 5 3550H
GTX 1650

Look at his laptop's CPU: it's a Ryzen 5, which means it's an AMD processor. Each and every one of us with this problem has an Intel processor, specifically the i5 and i7 varieties.

The reason I feel this is important is because Anarki's laptop is still using an Nvidia GPU, which suggests the only difference (other than the inherent differences between desktop and laptop equipment) is the CPU itself, and probably not the GPU.

In addition, it's not an issue with the operating system because we've seen this same problem appear on Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.

That said... I have NO idea WHY there'd be some sort of incompatibility with Intel CPUs or why this incompatibility would show up as an inability to perform the primary function in this game.

I also have no way of knowing if I'm right without hearing from other players whose computers run this game without any of the problems we've been facing.

So it's entirely possible I'm wrong (in fact, it's highly likely I'm wrong because none of this really makes much sense), but there is at least a tentative connection here.

interesting data point, would almost be a relief if that was it, diagnosing is often 90% of the work.

our problem in this thread is just we have such a tiny tiny sample size.

hopefully the devs have a much much larger dataset with the bug reports.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. My theory is based off a single person having an AMD processor instead of an Intel processor. That's a sample size that would be beyond laughable if this were meant for a scientific research paper.

I hope so. It'd be interesting to see what they've gathered so far.
Wonder if it is a issue with either a GPU or CPU instruction. This is the 3rd game in not too long that I have seen issues with. I am not sure what instruction is the problem, but something isn't jiving.

Same as others:

Windows 10 Pro
Zeon E5 1620 V3 -CPU
Quatro K2000
32 Gig Ram

I've already submitted the bug report in-game, but figured I'd share my info with y'all as well. Sorry to throw a wrench into your Intel/Nvidia theories, but I'm experiencing all of the same issues with my AMD setup. All my drivers have been freshly updated after I first encountered the bug, but it is sadly still with me. Can't think of anything unique about my rig, other than it starting to get a little old...

Specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate
AMD FX-8350
Radeon R9 270X

Oh, and since the dev seems to think it's relevant, I'm running the most recent DirectX 11 for my PC (though as someone pointed out, the most recent version is probably years old now)

I have a same issue too. This is my spec:
AMD A8-6600K
Ram 8 GB
HD 8570D
Windows 10
I just purchased the game and I also have this issue

My specs:

OS: Windows 10
Processor: Intel i5-4300U
Memory: 8GB
Graphics: Intel hd graphics family (I run on the lowest settings anyway)
DirectX: 12
ESC and click on details....if it's rust, switch to cleaner liquid for that material

We have no money to buy stuff, as we can't clean a single spot from the beginning on.

Okay, well... the AMD theory is shot. I didn't think it was very likely, but it was just something I had to bring up because (at the time) it was something that stuck out among all the Intel processors.
