Artillery Shells - Uses after chapter 2...?

So at the start of the game, I took the first two Artillery Shells (75mm) that you can find on the map thus far. I am not on chapter 4, I've found one more shell while looting and have one more I can buy from the merchant. Are these shells only used to clear the four debris piles marked with an "X" or do they have some other use?
I knew to use the left and right artillery piece first, as they have the best loot, and I'm assuming I should just pick the next best spot between the two debris that are left. Not buying the other Shell as it cost more than the loot I can gain from the ruble, unless it has some other use.

If you are diligent in exploring there are an equal number of shells to launchers. You can only get three by the end of chapter 2.

Oh wow, If by "get" you mean find, then I'm shocked as I thought I've thoroughly cleared the map at all times. I've since found all 3 by chapter 4, and I assume the final fourth one is sold by the trader.
I'm also assuming its only use is to be for clearing the debris piles?
