Harpoon Game series?
Is this game like the old Harpoon game series?

Seems similar but with full 3D graphics.
thinking the same thing here. My dad played the hell out of that game
It is. Imagine Harpoon with beautiful grafics and a dynamic campaign (in due time).
No, unfortunately not. It lacks the controls and the proper AI.
Harpoon interface was lightyears ahead of this title.

I'd say you could call it a spiritual successor to the Harpoon series and a pretty good one at that, even in its current rather limited EA version.

Not exactly the same, but very similar. And if I'm taking off my rose tintet glasses for a second, quite a bit better in handling.

Thanks !
I got so good memories of Harpoon from back in the days :)
Not as accurate as Harpoon in its depiction of ASW. Remember that Harppon was created by Larry Bond and a bunch of other sailors that served the US Navy. The developers are no sailors of the US or Russian Navy. And it is not as accurate as Dangerous Water also which was developed by a company that developed simulator for the US Navy. Here the graphics are pritier because it uses a newer technology. At large it is inspired by Dangerous Waters and Jane's Fleet Command from Sonalyst, but the knowledge is not the same. Anyway you would not like Dangerous Waters as there is a 300 pages user manual to read, it was not a point and click and it was very realistic in its tactics and strategy.

There really were no good interfaces in the late 80s/early 90s. They're very clunky and lack many QOL features. Also no mouse wheeling back then.
It would be very easy to make a better UI.
OK I was a big fan of Harpoon and the AI for that game included having patrol aircraft in your formation (ASW, AEW, CAP). Also the huge range of platforms. If the developers can get closer to replicating that this game will be excellent. In Harpoon it was the strategy that was important, not the battle visuals. Need to be able to include Helo ASW in formations dropping those sonobouys or dipping that sonar. Here's hoping the developers listen and find a copy of Harpoon to see what they need to build on.
Very similar and I agree with it being a successor. The graphics look great. It has potential to be far better than Harpoon {which was originally a pencil and paper game}.

It seems daunting with all the micro-management. Far more so than Harpoon from what I've seen so far which is very limited. I'll probably get the hang of it quickly, but I don't think I'll be running a CVBG for a bit.

Yes, and no. The interfaces were ugly as hell, but SeaPower lacks the functional interfaces Harpoon had:
You were able to set altitude/ depth, and speed for formations and units in one menu. You had dynamic rage circles for each sensor and each weapon. Furthermore, you were able to set up the weapon allocation in tremendous detail, and so on.

I played Harpoon when it came out on Amiga and later on PC (yes, I am old).

:-)
I don't think many on the dev team ever played Harpoon (I certainly didn't) but we did play Janes Fleet Command and early titles like Strike Fleet and of course Dangerous Waters.
Its based on janes fleet command and cold waters

when you're done with this, do Kriegsmarine and Royal Navy, and that's a day 1 buy for me :)
I'd agree that this is more Jane's Fleet Command than Harpoon - meaning a bit simplified, but with better graphics.

If You look for a modern Harpoon game, then Command: Modern Operations would be a better fit.

But then again - why not play both? ;)
