Phytoplankton

The water life collector is supposed to produce different phytoplankton depending on the body of water you place it in but I've tried multiple spots in every single body of water on (and under) the planet and the display only shows it will be collecting Type A phytoplankton.

I have to admit that I've only left collectors running in a couple of places but they only collected Type A.

Am I supposed to just ignore the indicator and seed every body with collectors and wait to see what turns up or is there something I have to do to unlock Type B and Type C?

Are you putting any of them near algae producers? All of mine are in algae fields and I get multiple varieties of plankton (and eggs) from each one.

They should produce all 3 types anywhere, A is the most common, c the least. they do produce different fish eggs depending on where you place them

This. It's the eggs that are dependent on location.

I get all three kinds plus the occasional fish eggs.

Yes 100% confirm eggs are region dependent but all water will give A, B, and C with probability in that order.

Thanks - I just needed more patience.
What was confusing me was that the collector always shows type A in its big icon and I'd assumed that it would show a different type in other locations like the miners do.

I have good luck getting good eggs at the Stargate pond. It doesn't collect a lot of eggs, but they're 350pt eggs, not the cheap 100 pt eggs you get at Starter Site Lake.
