Closest game to this that I know is Mad Max.
Funny enough, it got about 1/10 as much potential but also 1/10 as much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game design to hinder it.

unfortunately there is no game thats the same as DG. Horizon Zero Dawn is probably the closest your gonna get to DG but of course not killing zombies... Ghost Recon Wildlands has also similar gameplay but with more tech but dont go in with high expectations of the game it's a typical UBI soft buggy mess.

Mad Max is great fun, its more in lines with the Batman Arkham series, unfortunately there is no difficulty settings so to make the game challenging is to use the least amount of upgrades and perks.

State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition is on sale right now on Steam. Seems quite similar, and isn't a bad price right now ... annnnd never mind. Just saw it's been "played and finished" already.

So, us inexperienced gamers who want other games similar to Days Gone, should have a look at :-
Dead Rising 1, 2 and 3 ??
Metro game series
STALKER games
Just Cause 3, what about 1 and 2 ??
Mad Max
Dying Light 1, but not 2
7 Days to Die
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Left for Dead
State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition. At £8.49 on Steam just now, that's gotta be worth a try :steamhappy: I'm an old, tight fisted; no I'm not, just careful with my money, Scotsman :steamhappy::steamhappy::steammocking:
Anything I've missed? I've only trawled this thread for other games.

You all think Days Gone is a one off though? There's nothing else that brings all these elements together in the way Days Gone has. Seems a crying shame that there isn't a DG 2 in that case. Although where could the story go, to keep it flowing?
There are hints, at the end, that Bend Studios were planning a follow-on. Apparently Sony pulled the plug on it though. I get the impression the game had too many bugs, and critics were not keen on it. Sales were only OK, not outstanding. I'd guess that this was an expensive game to produce, so Sony expected a perfect game at roll out, which didn't happen although it never does anyway.

Maybe Generation Zero? There's no zombies unfortunately and it's a prime example of Eurojank, but it does have the open world and survival.

I have only played 2 and 3, but I don't recommend 2 because the gap in terms of graphics and mechanics is way too big compared to Days Gone. 3 is more up to par. 4 has such bad reviews I didn't even bother buying it. I have absolute confidence that any person who enjoyed DG would enjoy JC3 (although JC3 is more upbeat/goofy, it doesn't have the drama and seriousness that DG has, so people that find that too much of a change of tone might not enjoy it as much).

This two other games are a bit of a stretch in terms of comparing them to DG but Mercenaries and Sleeping Dogs have similar elements (open world third person action games).

I'm a Baby Boomer generation :D
Generation Zero doesn't sound promising, for the generation to follow.
Sounds worth having a look at though.

I'm certain I'd enjoy JC3 then. Those others seem worth looking at too.

The games I already have are mainly open world, third person, action. Tomb Raider 2013, Rise of T.R., and Shadow of T.R., (I played T.R. many years ago, possibly on a Windows 6.2 computer), the three Witcher games and Skyrim V, Elder Scrolls.

….Dying Light 1, but not 2….
Definitely not “but not 2”… Dying Light 2 is fantastic and the people complaining typically had performance issues because it is a very demanding game when you push the quality. The world is great, map is fun, story is serviceable (just like DG) and the game is fun

Open world zombie game? Dying light 1, awesome gameplay, irrelevant story. Cant talk about the second one as I havent played it, nor do I want to, since the reviews are bad. State of Decay also comes to mind, but again, pretty much no story. For me, Days Gone has an awesome cast, a good story and good gameplay. Clearing hordes is just awesome, I bought the game on pc for that sole reason. Sadly, there are no other similar games that offer a full package of Good story/graphics/gameplay. One of those is always lacking and it is the story part usually. If you dont care so much for the story, go for Dying light 1, you ll have a ton of fun.

Now, if you want an open world game with an awesome story, guns and stuff, well RDR2 is probably on top. If you want something more modern, Metro Exodus is a decent game....And that is all that comes to mind. Hopefully I helpt you with this tedious and long reply. Cheers!

I'll have performance issues with DL then. My computer is a generation too old for DG to play well. It doesn't play badly mind, but not well. It stutters a bit when he's riding the bike sometimes, and the graphics lag a bit, especially when he's riding the bike. Not so bad that I couldn't live with it. There's a new computer being planned, just so I can play DG in all it's glory :steamhappy: I enjoyed it that much.

RDR2 Red Dead Redemption 2 ??

Thanks to you all. I'll bear all these comments in mind, when I'm looking for more games. At the moment my main priority is a new box of bits, and monitor. A 22" 1080p, factory locked at 60fps, won't cut the mustard any longer. I'm looking at 27" 1440p 165fps, ish monitors. Possibly with a curved screen, I'm not too sure about that though.

Days Gone is awesome, and it's tough to find something that will match the post-apoc theme as well as the type of game, but I've noticed a couple of other games that have a VERY similar gameplay style (open world, quests, camps to defeat and camps to gain trust with, light looting/herbalism/collecting, crafting/upgrading, skill trees, MC has a story to follow): Ghost of Tsushima, Far Cry: Primal, and Horizon Zero Dawn. DG is still my fav.
