FMV replacements for the CGI models

I've replaced all the CGI model videos with the FMV's from the realmyst game. They don't match up 100 percent but in my opinion it is better than looking at the CGI models.

I loved the FMV work in Obduction, and don't understand why they couldn't just use the fmv's from realmyst for this because honestly it fits the world WAY better than the CGI models.

Anyway, here you go.

EDIT:
INSTALLATION: Place the downloaded MP4 videos into your game directory which should look something like: SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Myst\Myst\Content\Movies\Windows

You can also right click on the game in steam and click Properties > Local Files > Browse
and follow the path Myst>Content>Movies>Windows And move and replace the MP4 videos from the RAR file into the game directory and click replace files.

Helps I had Realmyst installed still, I just converted those files into mp4 so this version of Myst could see them. It really makes a difference in how the game feels when interacting with the characters.

Practically every post I read defending the new models says that the devs claim porting the video was impossible etc. And you did it in like 2 hours.

If it was really that easy, there should have been an option in the settings to use the live action video, perhaps with a note clarifying that this option is experimental and there might be graphics artifacting, etc. in VR.

Really? I hadn't watched the streams of them talking about this new remake of myst but it literally was drag and replace the existing files because all the cgi models are just Mp4 videos. So i thought, what if i get the old videos and change them to mp4. And surprisingly it just worked when i renamed them to what the new game called them.

Speaking of vr, i haven't tried it yet, but so far the videos playing in pancake mode are pretty crisp and fit well.

Looks like a Chinese knock-off version of MYST. Why they didn't just get some people to redo live-action versions is beyond me, there's more than enough talent who'd love to play a role in MYST.

Honestly I don't think Sirrus looks that bad actually in the 3d model version.
Achenar looks a little crusty with iffy animation and lighting.
But then Atrus is just so off putting with the excessive lighting and shadows in the hologram.

Agreed. Even aside from the CGI quality, they basically changed the appearance of Achenar also. It's like they forgot he's supposed to be fat and chubby around the time of Myst 1 and turned him into a muscular, manly looking barbarian (which admittedly is in line with his Myst 4 portrayal if one conveniently forgets 20 in-universe years pass between Myst 1 and Myst 4 and Achenar literally had nothing to do for 20 years in a prison world other than hunt and work out).

Thank you SO much for this! My only gripe with this new iteration of this beloved game of mine just got fixed thanks to you. I'll try this out tomorrow, but the screenshots look very promising. Now this really IS the definitive version of the game. They made a BEAUTIFUL job here, expect for these CGI characters. Thanks again!

Yup. I just tried it out and they look amazing. This was my only issue with the game but those CGI characters really detract from the overall experience

The only ones i'm unsure about looking good are the parts with the hologram in the channelwood world. and realmyst had some extra files for near end game stuff that didn't have a video file in the new game.

Other than those though, i'm really happy with how the books and the Atrus imager look.
