The total number of active virtual reality (VR) users worldwide is forecast to be around 171 million as of 2018, around 16 million of these considering themselves to be hardcore gamers.Sep 22, 2020
yeah, nobody at all.
That's not many at all.
There are estimated to be around 2.7 billion "gamers" worldwide. There are roughly 90 million Steam users of which only 1.6-2 million use VR.
171 million is only 6.3% of all gamers worldwide, RMJ is right - that's definitely a minority.
i.e. not people who play triple A games
The difference excluding those people would be insignificant. VR users are still the minority and are projected to be the minority for some years, this is a fact, the entire gaming industry know this to be a fact. That said, the majority of "mobile gamers" own another medium which they also use for gaming.
I see, you're intentionally being "picky" with your statistics, in any case. If we're being picky, the 171 million figure you quoted also includes people who do not play triple A games as well as people who play on consoles which this game will never be released on. Far less than 171 million VR users would have access to this game if it were a VR game so 6.3% is being generous.
You don't get to pick, choose and/or skew statistics to enforce a point you're trying to make, that renders the statistics meaningless. VR users are a minority, that can't be argued with.
you know how you turn a minority into a majority? by releasing good products that people buy; like that half-life vr game.
there was a time when pc owners were a minority. there was a time when console owners were a minority. there was a time when car owners were a minority. etc, etc, etc.
