"Minimal build" for nightreign?
So during my run through the souls series, I eventually theorized on a "minimal build" or, a build that is most efficient, at minimum level. Like, if you were able to build a starting character which, across the series is around level 10, what would be the most optimal build to start with?

This is especially important considering night reign coming up because that is basically what the game is about, they give you a starting character, and you are exploring to find the best way up through the levels and gear.

So I wanted to post my "minimal build" and see what people think, and see if anyone has any ideas if it could be better.

So starting off, melee oriented builds might seem obvious. True, using magic gives you an opportunity to avoid a melee situation, but magic is typically short lived, and we can't expect to be able to reuse magic enough in a new game.

The problem here, is that being low level, means not having much HP. Even if you are specced into HP, you still probably dont have enough for extended or multiple engagements. You Have to expect getting hit at some point, and because you have low HP which makes you prone to getting 1 shot, we come to the first item that is likely indispensable;

1; A good shield.

Without armor and little HP, and probably not much weight to be able to carry, the most reliable defense you can have is a shield block. Even if you loose all your stam to a hit, that could easily be the one hit that would spare your life. As you level and get more HP and carry weight the shield might be less necessary, but until then, this seems like the most important thing you can get.

Now, we need a way to stop enemies. We are still waiting on using levels for HP, and with a shield, we might not have much available carry weight. That means we need something light. Fast too, since a shorter length of attack means a quicker recovery time for a defense. With light fast hits we might not be doing much damage, but if it builds bleed, the bleed can stack quickly. So the number two item is;

2; a fast knife, claw or fist with bleed.

Ok, we got as much defense and attack we can get while minimal. Now that we have a chance to live long enough to build some levels, we have to ensure the ability to keep making levels. So our first few levels should go to;

3; Higher HP/Vigor.

So now we got good defense, offense, and the HP to sustain ourselves through some tough times. Maybe we hit the HP softcap. Here's where there's a diversion; should we concentrate on higher armor stats, or recovery? Armor will have an effect like higher HP, mitigating damage taken. The souls series is notorious for its low armor ratings however, so investing into weight carry for armor might take a large investment for it to pay off.

The other thought would be, investing for healing. Sure, you might take some bigger hits, but if you can recover from it afterward, you can probably last a lot longer than if you had invested into armor points, which had little effect until you invested a lot.

Discuss.

you don't get to make a build, you have a preset class much more akin to ff14

bro thinks reskin slop is gonna have enough depth to allow you to create your OWN character IN DARK SOULS? impossible, unheard of... i can recommend anyone who wants a solid 10-20 roguelites that will cost you less and be wayyyyyyyyyyy better, and when your tired of them you can play sekiro or ds2/3 or bloodborne or a good souls like instead of ER reskin slop (check nine sols too)

That's just twinking.

Lightest armor with a Claymore and buckler all points in STR

Nightreign just has classes with automatic level ups for your class
Good ol' sword and shield are the most versatile build IMHO. Especially now that guard counters exist. Just never fails, unless the enemy is just particularly good at breaking shields at which point you just two hand the sword and do it manually.

Not that it's gonna matter in Nightrein.

You're making detailed plans to cross bridges that aren't there. Stop anticipating and preparing, learn Nightreign by doing it and playing it for what it is, a game you've never experienced. Or suffer the "Souls Veteran" curse as you assume yourself prepared and ready only to have that bite you right in the hubris for not learning the new thing as new.
