ELDEN RING
Things you know now (late game) that you wish you knew in the beginning
I love Elden Ring. It made my relationship go from take it or leave it with the souls game to my absolute favorite game.

But let's face it, it has a lot of depth. And there are things that I'm learning now that I wish I knew in the beginning of the game. So instead of letting new players make the same mistakes we have, let's share our mistakes and so the new players can make different mistakes! :steammocking:

First thing I wish I knew was that it was worth giving co-op a fair chance. I thought I didn't like playing with other people, but it is the most enjoyable part of this game. It's also low risk, high reward.

Just how helpful consumables actually are. In most games I've played, **cough, cough Elder Scrolls** the consumable items are only kind of okay. The reality is that you really don't need them. Nothing in that game isn't something being a level or two higher can't handle. But in Elden Ring (like with the Witcher) they are actually helpful.

I would encourage any new player to learn (via google) how the games systems work when it comes to weapon scaling, upgrading etc... I played for many hours without understanding these systems and it was painful, particularly in boss fights. Also, level vigor.

I didn't know jump attacks were so abusable in my first playthrough and only found out very late. After that I proceeded to first try Maliketh, Radagon and elden beast by spamming it with 2 colossal weapons
Main problem with the open world is that a lot of NPC quests are so easily missed in favor of looking for the next big boss. I mostly wish I knew that a lot of them would be inaccessable if you progress too far. The BIG point of no return after Fire Giant was obviously going to lock out of stuff, but I didn't expect walking into the snowfield to kill off an NPC and have the game treat me like I met that dead dude lol.

This. My first Dark Souls game. My brother told me about weapons scaling when I was almost all the way through. At first, it wasn't too big a deal, but in NG+, I'm starting to see the problem.
Leveling up does not increase health vigor does and that leveling strength does not increase carry weight yes ER was my first souls game.

This is why I was happy this game has such a strong, supportive community.
That rolling onto skulls breaks them. I kept using my weapon and missing a few times, breaking them open piñata style.

Idk if this counts but I didn’t learn about the effects of great runes and rune arcs till like, mid-late game.

First time was obv blind run so I wasn’t lurking the forums or watching vids 24/7 for info, so when I finally did it felt like a caveman discovering fire.
It took me an unreasonably long time to figure out that there's more than one stake of marika, and that it's not offering to send me all the way back to limgrave every time I die at a boss. I think it also took me a while to figure out I have to activate the summoning pools at each location to get summoned for coop.

Deathbirds and deathrite birds get absolutely wrecked by holy water pots, especially if you have any FAI invested into your stats. That one deathrite bird outside of the academy can be killed with about 4, maybe 5 pots.

Those glowing skulls hold a golden rune(1) in them. Its not much, but its nice to grab anyway. Running over them with torrent shatters them as well.

You can get all the way to either the Grand lift of Dectus or the side-dungeon leading up to Atlas plateau without ever having to kill anything since the start of the game. It is that open.

Jumping attacks cannot be parried, period.

Poise is dependent on BOTH your armor (specifically its poise rating) AND your weapon. I've found lighter weapons definitely seem to be easier to interrupt. Besides, if you're going to poise through damage, you should be trying to maximize the damage you are doing in return, which you really can't do with a rapier...

Destroying stationary ballistas technically counts as a "crit" as far as the game is concerned, if you are wearing an item like the crimson/blue knife talismans. Probably counts as a kill too for Ancestral horn wearers.

See what these games have done to us? We all have serious trust issues. That sounds just like something a FromSoft game would do.

It took me an unreasonably long time to realize that you can actually use that giant site of grace in Roundtable hold.

I also learned that Rainbow Stones are actually pretty handy. You can use them to see if a cliff will kill you and to find invisible paths.

Took me an unreasonable amount of time to figure out to use torrent when traversing the overworld. Kept forgetting he existed.

Took even more time to figure out those jumpsprings torrent can use can also be used to land safely from any height.

Same. And when I swore that the tutorial pop-ups didn't mention it, I was proved wrong on my second character.
