I'm still baffled at how the devs could overlook such an obviously overpowered boss.

Without irony and sarcasm, Soldier of Godrick actually has the highest stat in the game for one thing: poise recovery speed. 99x the cap per second (so practically infinite). You're not gonna stagger this guy if you don't go into the tutorial with a big weapon and get a charged R2 hit.

Nvm uninstalled the game. If this is the first boss I dread to think what the rest of them are like. I managed his first phase but the second phase "soldier of god, Rick" is just unfair

if you went down the tunnel where he is you can't go back unless you beat him, I think you softlocked yourself

Nah that boss is too hard, I’d rather uninstall the game then make another attempt at him
