Light Greatswords = real alternatives to Katana/Curved weapons
I saw a demo reel of the weapons of the DLC, or to be specific I scanned for the Light Greatswords and saw their moveset.

These are the weapons HEMA nerds have been waiting for - sure, in the Greatsword class, there is that "flowy" alternate R1 and R2 string, but they all for the most part resemble glorified hammers and lumberjack axes in the movesets and animations, which by the way are mostly unchanged from Dark Souls 1.

Without spoiling what people are in for, it appears to be everything people wanted out of Greatswords and Straight Swords alike, and the Light category will highlight all the weaknesses of the dated, arbitrarily slow moveset of the former two sword categories; multi-swing R1 inputs, proper utilization of false-edge strikes, and flashy but not overdone footwork/movement.

Definitely will be on the Dex side of things, meaning you can rock a much wider variety of fashion without a thematically-mismatched weapon type, which has been my fashion/style gripe for the longest time. Sure, with Ash of War affinities, this isn't that big a deal anymore. However, the "appearance" of being a Dex weapon is still built-in to my brain, I guess.

I already primarily use Nagakiba, and Fromsoftware has attempted an Odachi before in Alonne's Sword(which was cool enough). I'd need more info, as "O-Katana" is indeed a thing but probably isn't what I'm expecting based on its name(similar to Light Greatswords effectively just being "Bastard Swords" aka "hand and a half")

Regular Light Greatswords, uninfused, are definetely going to replace Shamshir as my go-to option for a "Black Flame Blade" buff. I really like the elegance LG's swings have to them.

Depending on the one-handed moveset, I might throw Shamshir in the off-hand

theyll maybe be good for pvp only but poise damage is the #1 good thing for pve and the highest poise damage weapons are then ranked by wether or not they can use lions claw/other broken ashes and how fast their charged r2s are and then how usueful the rest of their moveset is.
status applying weapons become better once you reach higher ng+ levels

I predict the DPS and poise damage will be adequate enough for the majority of enemies - I wouldn't expect it to replace Greatswords for tankier builds that are reliant on busting through hyper-armor or the poise threshholds on armored guys - in my experience though, faster weapons are more useful throughout a PvE journey, with spells/incants filling high poise damage roles if the weapons are lacking.

Note that Katanas/Curved Swords will likely have less poise damage than these, regardless
