I have a theory

On the dlc the second main boss is called rellana and she is renallas little sister. We know she is very loyal to Mesmer. My theory is melina is their child. It would explain her similar appearance to ranni as they would be cousins, as well as her links to fire and faith magic(rellana has two swords one int one faith)

Unfortunately Melina is litterally named "Daughter of Marika" in the game files.

Also Melina isn't related to intelligence, she's related to faith and fire.

Edit: She also mentions her Mother gave her purpose inside the Erdtree, and she remembers said purpose once she is at the Erdtree.

Also, also, her name fits the theme Of Malenia and Miquella, and all of Marika's children are trios. However that could be up in the air now, as Mesmer may be the third from that trio.

Also, Also, also, she's heavily implied to be the Gloam Eyed Queen, who is an Empyrean, and she would need to be a demigod to be one.

Also, also, also, also, She's cursed like the other two R+M children.

Also, also, also, also, also, she knows every single line of Marika's dialogue, wouldn't make sense if she wasn't Marika's daughter.

Also, also, also, also, also, also, the game is pretty blatant about describing which characters are couples, and Mesmer and Rellana aren't listed as one. The title of blade pretty much means "Protector of" it's a knightly title. It would be like implying that Malenia and Miquella are a couple.

We already know Melina's backstory though. Putting aside what she tells you, there are lots of context clues:
- Says she is the daughter of Marika (and as Key states is literally named this in the game files)
- Fights like a Black Knife Assassin, who are all Numen, like Marika
- Uses the Blade of the Calling in combat, which was blatantly the template for the black knives
- Red hair. Radagon is almost certainly her father, unsurprisingly given the naming convention (Marika, Malenia, Miquella, Melina).
- Has knowledge of various different forms of flame, including frenzy flame. And uses flame to burn the erdtree.
- Its never stated outright, but strongly implied the reason for burning the erdtree was to allow the tarnished to get to Faram Azula, a land separate from everywhere else to the point where few likely even know its existance. And the rune of death is here.
- Has a seal over one eye that strongly resembles a claw.
- Maliketh is at Faraam Azula. His alter ego in Caelid gives you a clawmark seal, and uses an "eye" of rather dark color. He is guarding Destined death.
- Two godskins in Faraam Azula. Likely not a coincidence.
- Her appearance at the Frenzy flame ending, her eye in particular.
- A bit of a stretch, but Alexander only uses the power of flame in the Faraam Azula fight. And only here does his unique shard drop (with the description containing red hair). He consumed a corpse here with the power of flame.

Put it all together and the picture is pretty clear even with some missing pieces. She was the Gloam-eyed Queen, before being defeated by Maliketh/
