Absolutely the very best Souls game for a beginner. It is VERY friendly and easy to navigate around the 'hard' stuff until more powerful and confident.
Worth every penny of $60 and a real bargain at $36
as stated as spearhawk*
also OP, Trust me, take a tip ... not everything u see needs to be killed like other games.. some enemies exist to harass you in early levels :p so take ur time :D once u know the game mechanics even if ur low level u can harass them later xd and most important of all... its not about how high dps u do... its about how long u survive :p
ER is mostly optional content, meaning if you're having trouble in one place, you can just go somewhere else. If you do all the optional content, you should have plenty of levels as well. Compared to DS1, however, it is much faster paced and enemies (bosses especially) are a lot more aggressive. I think it's reductive to say ER is "easier" or "harder" than DS1, there's a lot of nuance in what makes each one difficult.
Here's some advice to help give you the best first experience:
- Make sure you meet the minimum requirements for your weapons.
- Invest in your Vigor. More than anything else, this will make the game easier for you. 60 is the softcap.
- Get your equip load down to at least medium so you can mid roll. Take off armor if you need to.
- Choose armor that gets you up to 51 poise or higher, as this will let you poise through some attacks without getting staggered.
- Try to focus on one damage stat (STR, DEX, INT, FTH, or ARC) and don't spread yourself too thin.
Most damage stats can be used with most weapons, thanks to the infusion system. Obviously, sorcery builds will need INT and incantation builds will need FTH, but otherwise there's a lot of flexibility. That said, some stats excel at specific builds.
Strength
- Two-hand a great or colossal weapon and use jump attacks or charged R2s to stun bosses. (Two-handing gives a 50% bonus to STR.)
- Use a great weapon with a greatshield and rely on guard counters to stun enemies. (Many greatshields have high STR requirements.)
Dexterity
- A lot of DEX weapons are light and fast, lending well to a dual-wield style.
Intelligence
- Magic-infused weapon in one hand, sorcery catalyst in the other hand. Mix up ranged spells with melee weapon strikes.
Faith
- Sacred- or Flame Art-infused weapon in one hand, seal in the other hand. Similar to above, but Catch Flame (a melee incantation) also works well, coming out very fast and potentially creating an opening for a slower weapon strike.
Arcane
- Take any weapon with innate bleed buildup and slap an Occult infusion on it. Faster weapons are generally more ideal here.
- In theory, you can do the same with poison weapons, but there aren't a lot of infusable weapons with poison buildup.
(Keep in mind that only bleed, poison, madness, and sleep are affected by ARC, and only if the weapon or spell catalyst has ARC scaling. Rot, frostbite, and deathblight are not affected by ARC.)
If you use spirit ashes the game gives you then most battles will be very manageable, if chaotic. If you don't prepare to get your ass handed to you 19 different ways.
If you realize when an enemy or boss is far too difficult for you to deal with and you leave to get better levels and gear the game is fine. If you don't and instead insist on banging your head against a brick wall you will probably get brain damage.
The game is as difficult as you make it.
And most importantly learn to take it easy and chill sometimes. A lot of the open world is bereft of enemies for a reason, this isn't supposed to be 100% pulse pounding combat, there is a lot to explore, and nice views to appreciate.
Beat Promised Consort myself without spirits or spells - just the Sword Lance with Piercing Fang on it. Sometimes I rethink all the trouble I put into beating that boss when I hear how other people did it!
If you like empty locations, uninteresting bosses and sh*tty music, play Elden Ring.
the godly tank taylew xD and heal from afar spell and golden wow to boost him every now and then xD
