axe talisman Question
what constitutes a charge attack? do I need to hold a heavy attack before throwing it out or does a heavy attack simply count as a charged attack?

Only fully charged heavy attacks are enhanced by the talisman. At least that's my impression after testing it.

thank you, so do you think for claymore I should use the spear talisman?
Only fully charged R2 heavies. Does not applies to quick ones, nor to overwhelming majority of Ashes of War.
Does not increase stance damage, only actual damage and by some 10-15% i think. Not a game changer, but neat on big hard hitters.

Well, you could do both...
Spear talisman increases bonus damage that is dealt by Thrust type attacks that land when enemy is taking an action (usually: attempting to attack themselves).
You could combine both talismans to deal absolutely crazy damage on a fully charged heavy thrust, since the bonus damage from the Thrust counter will use the increased damage of the heavy as base for its' multiplication, leading to some ridiculous damage numbers.

full charged heavys are very telegraphed though, invaders dodge easily

That is true, but on a rare occasion that one will fail to dodge it - it will hurt like hell.
The Dark Souls 3 strat was to attempt poise-trades with victims, baiting them into attacking in hopes of staggering you and just tanking through it delivering your own counter. More often worked against other great-weapon users, since they think "well, i can just poise through it" and sure, maybe they can... Will pay for it all the same.
barbaric/braggarts roar + off-hand highland axe + roar talisman + axe talisman + whatever other damage buffs you want = charged heavies do big ass damage
