Well, u can try doing all the dungeons in the starting 2 zones (limgrave and weeping peninsula to level up a bit) ooor defeat roaming bosses in these areas

personally i never could play with epee cuz idk pokey poke is not for me ... the greatsword from castle morne or claymore if u upgrade them should do some cool damage and the ash of war on the relic sword is pretty cool for starting areas ... if u wana play 1h, the flail from nightrider in weeping peninsula is cool too

And sometimes it is hard to beat monsters in some areas, summon ur spirit ash if ur finding it too hard, or summon someone :D its like i used a lot of spirit ash in my first new game, then it got easier once i figured out what i like :p

Keep going where you have not been, explore, find new things. If things gets to difficult go somewhere else for a while and go back when you feel stronger. Though fighting magma wyrm is not a bad thing.
Next logical point is the underground, there is an elevator in the east side of the map. Personally I like to look at the world map on fextrawiki and just go from boss to boss from settlement to settlement from catacomb to catacomb.

Check if game progress route. Idk if you want to do the Ranni quest it starts in Liurnia I believe.

I got no issue with having the wiki open on the other monitor and just check where to go next after I'm down with an area. Check it to see the weapons and armor you want to get. If you are not doing a 100% playthrough you probably do not need to go to every single place and pick up every piece of loot.

buy the amulet but dont attack him. exhaust the dialogue (marika tts!). later he sells +25% defense boiled crab (essential for endgame)
after that go very north and through 'the ravine' to get to next area. rya will be waiting there to take u to volcano manor (another area).

There is a guy who lives in a shack in liurnia, who is part of a quest that leads to Volcano Manor, which is a place I believe people mentioned in this thread already but I'll tag as a spoiler just in case.

He also sells cooked prawn, which gives you a physical damage resistance buff.
and u can start the manor quest but dont complete it just yet, fist u want to go to the capital

Wait until you'll find the teleport that will bring you to caelid where a certain gargoyle with a black blade awaits you... Here you'll know the true meaning of pain
Well you could always try travelling to the far east of Limgrave to the land of Australia. Just be aware you might be a little underlevelled for it.

You don't really find "better" equipment, just different equipment. Find a weapon that you like and use smithing stones to upgrade it. Some weapons are stronger than others, and different weapons are better suited to different playstyles. Try a few different weapons and find one that you like the moveset of. Or just keep upgrading your Great Epee.

Personally, I enjoy Strength builds. The Greatsword (actually a colossal sword) is a solid choice, and available right from the start of the game. Great hammers are also quite good, not as long as colossal swords but better at staggering enemies. If there's a particular weapon class you're interested in, you can ask here and we can help you find a good weapon in that class.

Confessor set looks nice, but you might find the game a little easier if you get your poise up to 51. Most PvE enemies do poise damage in increments of 50, so 51 poise lets you take some attacks without being staggered. The Knight set you can buy at the Roundtable Hold will get you up to 51 poise exactly. You can also mix and match pieces to get something that looks nicer. The Confessor Hood will remove the jousting target from the lordsworn knight chest pieces (except the Mausoleum Knight chest piece) if you have Boc alter it for you to remove the cape.

How much Vigor do you have? If you're getting stomped, you may need to invest more into Vigor. You should have 30 to 40 at this point, and you should have 60 well before the end game. It drops off sharply after 60, so not much reason to invest any further after that.

i have epee on +8 and dont have any more stones , cant find any more right now to upgrade more , and i feel like doing almost no dmg , i have changed armor but didnt help much , (yes im new to this game and understand the skill issue)
i really dont have prefered weapon , epee was only "good" dmg which i could use with my stats and had this poke skill on it (poke > roll > repeat > out of mana > dead ) so i went with it , my vigor is 30 currently and i cant get more runes for upgrades cuz enemy droping way too little for more levels (i used up the little gems too)
i tried to run around a bit fight what i can , but im stuck everywhere i go . on one side i cant beat the wyvern boss , on other side i cant beat the 2 boss fight in castle (dog+knight) , while in academy i was kidnapped into volcano and there i burn like torch , i hardly got to the point for teleport back(spint and dont look back kinda method)
i somehow killed the gold knight from start zone hoping for his weapon to be good but i cant use it (fat roll)
then i found some dungeon or whatever with this little aholes gargoyles with the dog statue boss on end ( done one, on other im raped to hell)
while exploring i got pinned down by some dragon (lost the currency sadly again)

im starting to think i picked wrong character (i picked conffesor becouse he had "highest" level on choice screen (and liked the hood)) or i play him wrong , as i read conffesors is good for "faith" builds
Starting level isn't really important, since the first few level ups are so cheap. For that reason, it's typically better to start as a lower level class since that gives you more control over your build.

Confessor is pretty flexible, and Faith builds are pretty good. What are your stats at the moment? You might be able to change into another build. You can also go back to the Academy and talk to the boss to respec if you need to.

Would you rather have a slow but high damage weapon? Or a fast but lower damage weapon? The Golden Halberd you got from the golden knight near the start of the game is actually pretty strong. Personally, I don't care for the moveset, but a lot of other people swear by it.

As for stones, look for the mines scattered around the area. If you haven't visited them yet, you'll usually still see an indicator on the map that looks a bit like a cave entrance. You'll find stones in the walls that you can just take, and you can farm additional stones from the miners. One of the mines in Liurnia has the bell bearing that you can give to the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold that allows you to buy smithing stones 1 and 2, so you can easily get a weapon up to +6.

A decent place to farm some runes would be to enter Caelid from the west and make your way to the Caelem Ruins. There's three flame chariots there. Sneak up behind them and backstab them, then if they're still not dead just keep hitting them in the back. Pretty easy runes, and they'll drop smithing stone 3s, helping you get a weapon up to +9.

In Gael Tunnel, the miners there can drop smithing stone 4s, and the Radahn soldiers can drop smithing stones 2, 3, and 4, but it's more rare. The farming can be tedious but it's a pretty easy +12 weapon.

Now, weapons like the Golden Halberd don't upgrade using normal smithing stones, but somber smithing stones. These are harder to get, but you only need one of each to fully upgrade a weapon. The upgrade scaling is also compressed, with +10 being the max, equivalent to a non-somber weapon's +25. You should have already found some somber stones and might be able to upgrade a weapon a fair bit.
once i killed the crab guy and had to restart the playthrough.. be careful with the crab guy. you may think he wants a fight but he is a cool guy
