Did they buff Malenia's Waterfowl?
The distance specifically. I've been testing a bit on the first flurry in solo (because the tracking in coop is terrible), and it used to be that gaining a bit of distance and dodging backwards at the right timing would work fine.

But now the first flurry seems to cover much more distance than I remember, like 50 feet or more. I've tried it just ten times, and so far dodging backwards did not work in avoiding the first one. Did they buff its distance or am I just remembering this wrong?

The second two are fine, same as I remember.

Can you roll through the first flurry yet without clicking your heel three times, spinning in a circle, doing laps around the gym and backflipping with laser precision?

Ended up killing her before getting to that point. As it turns out repeatedly knocking her on her ass keeps her from using waterfowl a lot.

Incidentally a lot less fun to do (imo), but nice work!
I guess it's block town for me then, followed by two well timed rolls.

You never had to do any of that. There are two ways to reliably avoid the first flurry in waterfowl dance. You either have to be at some distance from her when she engages the move. Or you can run around her, there are plenty of video examples. Not a very tricky technique, but it takes a few tries. The rest can be rolled through just like any attack.
The thing is - ER expands on what can be used as a "dodge" apart from rolling. And people have to learn to utilize it, or constantly struggle and complain. No longer you just roll for everything. You jump to dodge over some attacks, you land jump heavy attacks to duck under others. You use pure movement and positioning to avoid some, you roll others. Some you can interrupt. You can also affect the combo branching choices bosses make with your actions - effectively dictating what combo finishers they will use, that could be beneficial for you.
Also, if you must get hit by that first flurry - you can actually dodge through that entire combo and take less than half of your health bar in damage. If you have semi-decent vigor. Her grab and impale is more deadly, usually. But if you're neither good at avoiding it, or being reasonably tanky then you make the game too difficult for yourself. Which is not productive.

Slap Vow of the Indomitable on a shield and as long as you get the timing right it’s easy. You can bypass the whole thing.

Thank you for this unsolicited advice.
I've never played a Souls game before, so it's always good to have it be explained to me, especially when I have no nuanced preferences of playstyles and ways to enjoy a game.
Be well, stranger.

Think the freezing pot can interrupt her dance if you hit her with it as she jumps into the air, but not 100% sure on that (only briefly saw it in a video giving tips on all consumables)

Yes, yes, I know other methods to avoid it, that's not what I'm asking about. I'm asking if they buffed the RANGE of the first flurry specifically because it seems like it goes much further than I remember.

Killed her one time solo and 2 co-op after the patch, didnt noticed anything special involving waterfowl dance. What shocked me was her using two scarlet aeonias in a row.....other than that all the same.

I did it.....I kicked the *** of the READING COMPREHENSION boss!

You mean, on 1.07? I haven't reached her on 1.07 yet, the last time I defeated her was on 1.06, but the range in my book has been really far then already. So I'd think you remember it incorrectly, if that can even be said about memories, since they are always quite individual, as far as I can say.

I don't know how one would test that, because I just tried about a dozen times, and she will literally wait as long as she has to. She will just slowly walk around menacingly until I'm in her face to do her Waterfowl dance. So I'm always right under her when she does it. On the plus side, she will let me attack her with range attacks without dodging any of them during this period. After a couple of hits she will dash towards you though.

I think it still the same.
I always needed to either be close and dodge forward or be far enough to run then dodge a bit.
Dont seem to have changed (unless they changed it like in the last 2 days that I did not play Malenia)

It is the same and thats it really. Nothing changed since Sabaithal created this thread, and i kill her every 2 days or so.

I've found great success in baiting her into using Waterfowl Dance by throwing the Bloodboon miracle at her. Given her crippling weakness to both fire and bleed AND the bloodfire bleed buildup it works quite well. Sometimes you can even get a lucky bleed proc and interrupt her our of it before she even does it, though I don't count on that to save me.
