Healing Incantations in coliseum
Why are they allowed? I queue into a match of coliseum with heals turned OFF. Heals being Flasks of Crimson Tears. They made a huge ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ oversight though, as healing spells are still allowed, for... some... reason... and for my fellow avid PvP'ers out there, I'm sure you have either encountered this (and probably wanted to perform a Hoarah Loux grab attack on your controller afterwards), or you're one of the culprits, in which case, please, stop. Just because the devs made this oversight, doesn't mean you need to haul your half-beaten ass across to the other side of the arena and heal it right back to full, leaving honourable combatants such as myself feeling betrayed and quite honestly wanting to quit PvP overall. Seriously, the PvP problems already stack high enough to make the Erdtree look like a twig, what with latency that lets my opponent hit me with a dagger from the other side of the map, poor matchmaking for any coliseum mode other than 1v1s, and a plethora of one-shot builds that turn an honourable duel into an experience akin to a boxing match with a combine harvester, so do we really need the absolute fools who still manage to get their posterior wrecked whilst playing with a max dex/arc or greatshield build against a regular, functioning human being, running away and healing back to full, as many times as they want (trust me, FP does not run out that quickly, and I saw a guy with really low mind stat pulling it off several times, and given that the faith requirement on stuff like Lord's Heal basically guarantees that they have at least one showstopper move to punish you for overcommitting to try and prevent the heal, so you can't always just blitz their health bar quick enough to end it before they can get away)? I feel as though instant heals should be banned at least, but preferably also gradual heals, as they can grant a deceptively large amount of health for very little FP expenditure. Anyways, enough ranting. Opinions?

You're supposed to use whatever you're provided with in the game, if that is the build then it is what it is, I get where you're coming from, but you have to realise as well that it's not as if they can heal whenever they want, they have to run across the arena as you said and then heal, so your job is to not let that happen, as whenever they try to heal they are locked in an animation.
It is cheesy yes, but so are bleed builds, spammy mage builds, poison builds, full tank bullgoat builds, so should everything just be removed from the arena? Just leave plane items and armours without status effects and without any incantations weapon arts or magic, yeah that would make for an amazing and very interesting duel.
It is annoying, I get it, but it is up to you to optimise your build and playstyle in such a way to deal with those situations, and if you can't follow someone and just bonk them as soon as they try to heal then what can I say.

If someone pulls off a healing spell in the area more power to them.

You should know how to punish heals. Why did you let them do that?

lol, I low-key think this is just bait. Most optimal weapon setups should kill players in no more than 2 or 3 hits (Hell, there's another guy complaining about high damage in PvP). Take advantage of Lord's Heal's recovery frames please, it's just there to prolong the fight. And this "honourable players" nonsense is such a blight in all Fromsoft games, let people play how they want, bring tools to counter chuggers and healers.

Muh honour = I cannot adapt to common situations, so ban it to make the game fun for me.

Someone stun locking you to death with rain of arrows or what ever other multi hit ash of war? A-OK.

Someone using a slow to cast healing spell? RRREEEEE BAD, GIT GUD !

Opponent: uses healing incantation.

Me: unleashes Destined Death.

Simple as.

This thread really encapsulates why I dislike the pvp in this game and the attitude of the people who participate in it.

Playing a match specifically for no healing probably shouldn't have healing in it. You definitely shouldn't heal in it if you are somehow able to. The intense effort to justify it is just... sad? dumb? Idk how to even describe it. Disappointing at the very least.

Bruh, you gave someone long enough to get off a bloody healing incant? Even the quickest one still takes longer than a colossal weapon charged R2.
Narm Aug 11, 2023 @ 6:45pm
The trolls and the sweatlords are always gonna be there. Just gotta learn to work around them. If you want to be spiteful, you can always slot a heal incant. Otherwise, you gotta have a plan. For incant healers, you need a good chase weapon. I like a halberd, but any decent poke weapon will do. Then you gotta stay close enough to punish and never let them get another heal off.

Some dude is always gonna pop up in these threads to say you shouldn't have let them get the heal off, but it's not hard at all for anyone decent to get a heal off. Then if they mix endure with it, try telling me about how I wasn't suppose to let them get the heal off. I'll wait.

My take is that the game's poorly balanced, so PvP is most fun when we self-balance. But if somebody isn't gonna do that, then I'll take them down with greater skill. If that doesn't work, then more practice. And some soap over their corpse after I figure out how to kill them.

The people abusing mechanics, I take as a challenge, like a special boss. Just keep tweaking your build and loadout, and keep practicing. You'll get 'em eventually. Mechanics abuse is nothing in the face of git gud.

Quite literally a case of git gud.

Mmm, the thread reflects more on the ER Steam Forum community itself rather than the PvP community as a whole. IIRC, the competitive ER PvP ladder scene banned healing incantations in ranked duels well over a year ago (half a year before the colosseum update was even released). Heck, we've had our own serious discussions about healing incantations in these forums a good while ago. But the low-effort responses you see now is typically what you'll see for a lot of reoccurring posts such as:

- Healing Incants in Duels (we had a post maybe 1-2 weeks ago)
- Unspoken PvP etiquette
- Ultrawide Support lol
- Etc

To be fair, the OP does seem like a bait (perhaps even copy-pasted?). But whether they are bait or legitimate complaints from newer players, this is low-effort SPUF in a nutshell. On the bright side, there are a good number of regular forum users that write genuinely funny and witty comments. And every now and then, you'll have a good critical response or two. So it ain't all bad lol.

Edit: I bungled the formatting. Not gonna fix it. About those low-effort posts thoooo

imagine getting mad because you let them heal
Because of magic spam users idk.
Omastar Aug 11, 2023 @ 9:19pm
I'm gonna add to this with something small as everyone always comments on this kinda thing with "Well it's on you for letting them get it off"

Due to the arena size + combination of using endure before the heal, punishing it can be nearly impossible in some cases (like if they're using light roll), and many times they can still heal enough to make it worth it, even IF you manage to punish them.
