Caelid is proof this developers are now out of touch
Seriously this is stupid have you been to Caelid? dumb question too get it? It is so close to the start everyone is going their early probably before the southern portion of the map and traveling to Caelid instead where it's only death. So stupid it is not even the map layout it is even a trap right WHEN YOU LEAVE the starting zone to the lower area and entering the ruins a entrance will teleport you to Caelid into the mines and you have trapped there like that out of nowhere how does it feel to a new player to that happen to and then quit?

Caelid should not be there make it large starter zone because it's lazy to just put Caelid there when that zone should be more starter area and Caelid off the side of North West Liyanaria of the Lakes where it really belongs think about it you know it makes sense. Talk to so many playuers who quit Elden Ring know what they say? It was because Caelid or they quit there because of it.

People complain also about the birds and dogs but it's fine really think about that too it's good practice for toughter enemies beyond just move Caelid to North West of Liyarnia of the Lakes and it is better.

So apparently the red skies, lack of greenery, oddly strong dogs out front of a burning church, and the massive scorched stone wall blocking the main path into the region (if you're online no doubt having messages along the lines of "regret ahead, therefore turn back") wasn't enough of a hint that this was a nasty place?

Not to mention the BGM which sounds less like music and more like something dying slowly and painfully in the distance.
The fact that it reminded me of Arizona was enough to keep me out.

I see, a "new to souls-like games" player.

Alongside with everything mentioned by him:

If the player can not understand, after fighting some enemies or noticing some obvious hints, that the area is not "for his char level" or "for his player skills level" then it is a Problem Between Chair and Keyboard/Gamepad case (problem exists between keyboard and chair, PEBCAK), not a game problem at all.

Yes, been there, done and dusted, also been there at low lvl teleported on my first run and I didnt even knew the game had a map untill I left there and I found my way through and back to near the first grace, without the horse too that at the time I was given but I did not knew about it because I skipped dialogues because I just wanted to play so I did not knew I had the horse already neither how to use it (:crashbcoot:), totally my fault at that as not only I skipped the explanation I also did not check my items either.

Also, lets consider it happen to you to be teleported there within 30min of gameplay and you see yourself as powerless against the enemies and locked inside Caelid (or worst, inside that cave and not even getting the site of grace that could be got by just running fast in some direction that you would eventually find it)... lets also consider you, like me, did not knew about the map neither knew you had a horse (or was "lucky enough" for that site of grace to not be the site of grace you get the horse and you got there like me, teleported)... considering it all, if I was the kind of player that dont want this kind of challenge, I would just restart the game with a new character and avoid that area for the time being to return only later.
I would not just quit the game because of that, by no means I would quite the game because of such thing and it can happen at other souls games too, as if you go at

Btw, did you knew you could just run past the castle by circling it around?
I wanted to explore more and after a few tries at Margit I just wandered everywhere and I eventually found the entirety of Liurnia and even reached sites of grace inside Caria Manor before I gone back and defeated Margit, because I also had forgotten about that boss but I returned to it because I noticed it was a big location I had simply not checked, also I wandered a lot but could not find any "boss" per say (nothing that could give me Steam achievements, only dungeon bosses).

Did you knew at DS1 you could very well go to New Londo Ruins, Blighttown or The Catacombs right after the tutorial area and think the game difficulty spike from 1 to 5 right oiff the bat?
At DS3 there was even the case of a guy that said to be some 4h trying the "second boss" of the game and that after much suffering he could beat it, when people asked he started to describe the Dancer and, well, the Dancer is midgame boss not early boss but can be accessed right after the tutorial area and if you trigger it instead of getting to the next tutorial boss (that is literally downstairs from where you get to the Dancer) you are in for a hell of a ride for a beginner, as he also went up the ladder and gone for the castle, but that is on his/her own to have accepted that challenge and to move on through there, most certainly the rest of the game up until when that player returned there was much easier than the Dancer and the other bosses he found beyond that area (until where the player can reach without the key items).

It is totally on the player to decide what to do, when and how and if the player can not perceive the difference between "killing enemies in 2 to 4 hits" and "kiling enemies in 10 to 25 hits", also not being able to perceive the difference between "things killing the player in 2 to 4 hits" and "things 1shotting the player everywhere" . . . that really is a "PEBCAK" problem

This was a glorious. When I exited the mine, I thought I was right in mordor. One of the best experience in early game IMO

Still not as bad as Australia sadly.

You are not trapped there at all. Just run out of the cave hop on torrent and ride away. Nothing can catch you while on torrent.

Totally optional area btw

Meh you are more or less right but thats the most important optional area of all the time.

One demigod, two long side quests with a proper end game reward, and tons of dungeons together with some of the best weapons of the game and even sorceries/incantations.
Even a mechant selling infinite amount of deadly poison arrows....

Anyways this is bait, Caelid is the best "toxicswamp" of all the souls games. Not only because even ruined by rot the land still has his charm also because the flora and fauna mutations makes total sense.

No, everyone knows the most important optional area is Mohgwyn palace because you can become level 100 before even finishing the first area of the game.

I'm new to this genre of "souls" game and I, like OP, got teleported by the trap chest and ended up in Caelid mining tunnel when I was level 12. This taught me three things:
1) Don't rush headlong into combat with something just because it's there.
2) You have to die to get anywhere in the game. I died 8 times trying to figure out which way was out.
3)How to run while crouched.
Getting out of the mining tunnel gave me a huge sense of accomplishment. I'd done the impossible! For me at least.
I left the cave after resting at the site of grace, took one look outside, and said "Nope. No thank you."
Later, I found a trap that led to a balcony in Lendyll (sp?) and found myself face to face with a giant golem. I thought about just high-tailing it out of there but then I saw the golem was guarding a big and shiny box! Well, couldn't leave that alone so I went for it. And I thought I was being sneaky. SMACK! Dead. But I wanted that shiny box so that teleport taught me some things as well.
1) Patience is a virtue. Smack 4 times from behind with GGS then run like a kid from the boogeyman.
2) How to stretch potions to the max. I had 5 FP refills and base 95 FP with +2 flasks. I finished the golem off with 0 flasks and 11 FP.
3) That, unlike most games that just shaft you after you do something hard, ER actually throws rewards your way. I got an HP-regen talisman for all the effort.
I also had a profound sense of accomplishment from this.

This game isn't your standard fare RPG. It doesn't suck like that.
It teaches.
You just have to be open-minded enough to learn.

Congratulations, you just enjoyed the real day 1 Elden Ring experience!

I actually murdered everything inside the damn place (of course i died a lot but had little souls to lose). The only hard thing there are the pest, the boss is not a piece of cake but slow dumb and predictable.

If you bother with that i instead leaving the cavern for later you will get the first smithing stone bell. Amazing to start upgrading early game weapons.

Exactly what I did, but then I ent to Selia Town, Gowry Shack, Selia Gateway, found the white dragon and the church, when I saw the castle at distance (that you can see if you go on top of the destroyed structure by the side of the church) and there I went.

I did not kill anything major (dragon, bosses, etc) at Caelid, but I went to most places before I left there and avoiding the swamp (well, I also tried the swamp but, like . . . no boluses, not enough flasks, not enough HP - less than 500, so I stuck with land).
Even for someone stupid enough to ignore the horse (or to ignore dialogues and dont even know the horse exists) it still possible.
Developers are for sure 100% in touch of what the game needs to be playable by "anyone" at any circunstance and if the player do a mistake (to die, to fight something much higher lvl, to remain at higher lvl area, to dont use everything the game have to offer, to skip all dialogues, etc), it is all the player fault not the devs.
MJ 13/nov./2022 às 7:15
Caelid is literally the best zone. You just run around and fight all manner of ridiculous creatures.

Elden Ring is NOT World of Warcraft, or any other hand-holding RPG that folks may be thinking of.

* Yes, you can walk into trouble that you are not prepared for.

* Yes, you can be sent to an area you are not prepared for, but as far as I know, there is always a way out that can be accomplished by a lower level player. The Sellia Crystal Tunnel is no exception; you can just stealth out.

* If you are new to Elden Ring and want help, use the FExtraLife Wiki.

* If you are new to Souls games, have patience. Everything is a learning opportunity.

Don't think the game is 'Bad' due to a 'Hard' area, or an 'Undeserved' death. It is not bad. The player just needs to get a bit better. :)

Good Luck
Sabaithal 13/nov./2022 às 7:57
Sella crystal tunnel in particular isn't difficult to get out of. If you die you just respawn where you started (in effect losing nothing), and there is a site of grace with the exit on the lower corridor, it was pretty obvious to me.
