Do you get banned for using mods in this game?
Is it just like other souls games or is this one different? i'm seeing so many cool mods around from random enemy/loot placement to game balance overhauls and new textures and models for stuff, that being said i'm not sure if its worth it to use these if it meant a ban from online play

As long as you stay in offline mode you'll be fine, but yes EAC will ban you if you go online.
Mods used while connected to FromSoft's servers is not allowed.

Mods are allowed if you're not online or are using a different connection method like P2P (co-op mod does this).

Modding saves with something like CE is...a risk. If you're not an idiot about it, FS can't do much about it because they don't know if it's a shared save game uploaded to Nexus, if it's an offline save you just took online or if it's been hacked...but it's definitely a "do at your own peril" situation with that peril increasing if you do something like give your character hacked items, etc that are obviously going to get flagged since there's no legit way for that to happen in game.

You will get banned if you use mod while using official servers. If you don't official servers, or don't start EAC (because they are tied into each other), then no you cannot get banned.

How to start the game without EAC? But also not in the game menus.

I can't even start the game now because EAC says it isn't installed. :steamfacepalm:

Fromsoft has no idea what banning is, you're fine. As long as you don't actually alter stats mid game their detection system won't pick it up. I always use ReShade and other visual mods.

From what i can gather its only if you get caught, but considering how so many people cheat on this game and their other games i wouldnt worry about it

Worst comes to worst they could "Softban" you so you only play with other cheaters. They did that to me on Dark Souls 2 after I tried the randomizer mod and didn't follow the proper instructions, using it mid-game and instead of at the menu.

Easy anti-cheat is the best anti-cheat because of how easy it is to disable. As long as you are using mods with the anti-cheat disabled and is offline (they won't let you go online if you have EAC disabled anyways), you're fine. You can revert back to vanilla by just uninstalling the mod or do a fresh install of the game or verify integrity of files. However, it's recommended you create a backup for your unmodded characters because if you go back online and there's a modded item or an unobtainable item in any one of your characters, the system will detect it and get you banned.

There is a much simpler method. Just download this and use this instead of the game launcher. It will start the game in offline mode without EAC:

No, you only need to do it once. When ER updates, those files stay as you renamed them unless you verify files.
