yes but you dont have too. when you run solo you can not get invaded, you can only get invaded if you play co-op, so if you wanna play solo, just dont use summons.

Yes, as vonraven said. In ER you don't have to play offline for fully solo experience (without invasions or coop ). And you don't have to remain unembered /hollow neither (as there is no such mechanics), since you cannot get invaded by default unless you use item.

One clarification, you can still use summons (new in game mechanics), but you shouldn't call phantoms if you don't rant to get invaded.

More than likely given what they've learned from their latest release (Dark Souls 3) There will be an "offline" opt in inside their settings menu. But as far as we've seen with the play tests, you can't be invaded anyways unless you "opt in" in this release. So online wouldn't be that big of a deal in the first place. But you should be able to play online in non internet environments, they've never done "always online" in their games, I don't see them pulling a fast one on us with that now.

Oh I agree with you there. I'm in the minority that thinks that Dark souls 2 has the best PVP, but it being the only game in the series other than the OG Dark souls to require you to start in online mode to not have to play online gives me conniptions.

I mean it makes sense for like dark souls since you can't get invaded, but you can't invaded solo anyway. unless you don't like having messages i guess, which is valid since they can show you hidden locations.

There are a few really good reasons. One is being able to play around with the game code, like modding it or cheating, without being banned from multiplayer.

Another, probably the most important, is whether or not it's a live service game, and that idk haven't read up on it

Just play offline. You can still be invaded by NPCs but thats just a thematically disguised story element.

Not everyone has internet 100% of the time. You maybe on the road and wanna play etc. Or maybe your internet is spotty etc.
