Elden Ring director said they are not considering a sequel
https://x.com/IGN/status/1863946566718861429 : "Elden Ring director and FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki has said the developer is not currently considering making Elden Ring 2 but won't shut down the possibility in the future."

Since they left it open they might come up with it eventually, so Elden Ring left just like other titles of Fromsoftware. What do you think about this? Do you guys expected a sequel or not? Do you think they should've already went under development of the sequel or something new?

For me i don't mind both ways, i believe if its not a sequel for Elden Ring; they will come up with another banger. They can make a sequel whenever they feel passionate about it, this way its more likely that it'll be as good as this one i think. It also feels like they are at their best whenever they are experimental, i think forcing them to do a sequel for financial reasons might destroy their productivty, efficiency and creativity.

Great news. Build off the success of ER and move on to new adventures.

Good news. No need for Elden Ring 2. As the final boss and ending of the expansion showed pretty clearly, they were scraping it pretty thin as it was in "Elden Ring 1.5"

Just wishful thinking here, not saying this will ever happen, but I would like to see an open world survival craft game set in the Souls universe. Build castles, have sieges, command troops, have battering rams, ballistas, trebuchets, moats, tree cutting, ore mining...

I think that would be cool. Could still have Souls combat and exploration, just with castle building added on lol.

I never thought they would make a sequel to begin with. It is just not miyazakis style. Part of the greatness of these games is discovering the world/universe you are in. I dont understand why anyone would even want an elden ring 2. What do they expect out of it?

I liked the lore of dark souls, but got bored of checking out the lore of ds2 and 3. The world and my goal in it was already clear to me from the first game. To still make it somewhat interesting from software basically had to make big timeskips between these titles to be able to make significant changes to the world, so they have something new to tell. Not a fan of it and I dont think miyazaki was either.

People are just bad at letting go, hoping that playing elden ring 2 would be just as great as playing the first. They want to stay in a universe they are already familiar with and that they like. In reality if you want to have that feeling of playing elden ring for the first time again it would be best for from software to move on and create an entire new world. Yes there is the risk of that new universe not being as interesting to you as elden ring was, but in my book it is still better than playing it save and "milking" the elden ring universe.

Good. Fromsoft is better with creating new things. Dark Souls sequels were a mistake. Only reason DS3 exists is to overcorrect on all the problems players had with DS2.

They said this a long time ago already, and that ER allowed them to build new dev teams, so we should expect several smaller games. Miyazaki also said that he would have nothing against someone else placing a game in the Lands Between.

Edit: Why give this thread a clown?

I suspect because FS said this exact thing months ago, seems like IGN is just regurgitating old news.

And that's exactly the reason clown-happy folks are always one step ahead of you. The question is not "Why?", but rather "Why not?"

Probably for the better as i don't see where to expand from here. Maybe if we'll make one of the endings canonical and try to go from there, but...
If they ever want to make more - they can just make a couple of extra DLCs. No shortage of characters in need of a closure around here.

Sekiro 2 though, now that would be the ♥♥♥♥.

I suspect they might release something in the forms of a prequal.maybe dlc maybe a smaller version less open world based on Godwyn.A lot of people were dissapointed that the dlc didnt have much about him or bring him back so i assume the director has taken note.
They could also create a possibly completly different game based on the outer gods of the Elden ring universe.

I totally agree on this. I believe there were things not covered and people would like to see, but at this point it doesn't really matter to me.

We are still digging the lore so not to speak early, but godwyn and gloam-eyed queen might have more to them. I don't care enough to see a sequel for them though, maybe a DLC.

Other than that, exactly as you said i don't think it'll be as good as playing the first one. So just let them do what they do best: come up with something totally new.
