How poison affinity is supposed to be used?
It make the weapons physical damage lower in exchange for 630 poison damage over 90 seconds. Those 630 extra damage i get from the same weapon by not infusing it with poison, from the same hits i would use to proc poison, but instantly.
If i sacrifice part of my instant damage for a "investment" damage, it only worth if the return i get over time is bigger than the amount invested upfront. It's like lend a loan to receive less after a year instead of just keep the money.

Yup, you've figured out why nobody uses poison infusion.

Ok, but the game had so many updates. Why they don't balance it like they do with everything?

It's good with the Poison Flower kick ash of war but that's it.

Poison affinity is perhaps not the best but don't discount poison entirely. Poison mist gives you the ability to have DoT without sacrificing damage for example and it is downright busted on the antspur rapier with bleed infusion. Poison is a boss killer as well.

Poison as an ailment is good, but usually poison infusions isn't the best way to get it. (Though weapons with built-in scarlet rot tends to get a bigger boost to poison affinity than any other infusion which is worth keeping in mind)

Misc notes:
- Anything mentioning "Deadly Poison" applies the same damage but twice as fast as regular poison
- Poison Stone Clumps can proc the ailment really quickly if you hit something big with every individual stone
- Ripple Blade's massive Arcane scaling boosts any grease you put on it, any drawstring grease adds twice as much buildup per hit as the regular version but it lasts MUCH shorter
- The listed poison buildup is PER HIT, and it's the actual raw amount of buildup that gets applied to the enemy, so usually it's not worth speccing a large weapon for ailment buildup (the only thing that matters is number of hits and smaller weapons are better at getting them out there quickly - heavy attacks don't cause more buildup for instance)

I don't know, one reason could be because it's meant to be an early game infusion and supplanted by scarlet rot or bleed later on.

It's kinda funny how Dks2 was the only game that did poison right, since it wasn't just a waste of time. Well, I suppose it's not a complete waste of time in ER, but it's mainly used to buff yourself and not actually killing something with it. Stuff like the mushroom crown, kindred of rot exultation and I think poison hand also buffs the damage whenever something is poisoned.

It's kinda just there as a status ailment. I really miss the Dks2 poison...

I didn't even think about that.

Yeah, I got nothing. Maybe it sucks on purpose cause it's funny.

It is constant pressure applied. And if oyu are already applying pressure, then poison will often finish them off as they try to run, or give you a free hit if they try to cure it.
Agreed. My usual opponents need some tips on that last bit though. I can basically invariably pop off Flame, Cleanse Me with little trouble.

Interesting. That was the only game where I used poison. I guess that worked out.

I use poison for bow cheesing PVE such as the dancing lion beast in Rauh.

A poisoned weapon is a tool. Inflict the poison, then switch.

But why when in that time you can just hit the thing 3 more times and do more damage overall without having to hard-swap to something else?

You have some pretty divisive posts but I'm with you on this one
