edit:
especially since counter damage always occurs whenever you hit an enemy that is at the end of an animation, like when it's attacking.
This and lets remember that not all the pierce damage comes from spears. This monster
https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Fallingstar+Beast
Does pierce damage but of course with a colossal attack animation (no shield poke).
What I described earlier is definitely they way it worked in the other souls titles.
However, there is some indication that counter damage is unique to the pierce damage subtype in Elden Ring. At least according to the Spear Talisman:
A talisman depicting a spear and a soldier.
Enhances the counterattacks that are unique to thrusting weapons.
The fextra wiki seems to confirm this, it's fextra so it might be prone to errors.
Or am I missing or just confusing something here? Is it just unique to thrusting weapons? Does the talisman only enhance counter damage caused by thrusting weapons? But why is pierce damage not mentioned a single time?
I feel like something got lost in translation with his one.
Thanks for the heads up
No problem , hope i was somewhat useful
